Has anybody bought Ford 4.10 gears from Thunderbolt motorsports off of ebay? He has them pretty cheap ($148) and has 100 of them, but he won't respond to whether or not they are the Ford Racing 4.10 gears part number M-4209-G410. That sets off a warning flag for me. He also claims to have the install kits for $70.
Where else can I get a similar deal on them?

Dustin.....I was looking at getting 4.10's also. I will probably have a shop install them. Do I need to get the install kit or would a reputable shop already have it (not sure if it is a generic part or specific to each manufacturer)? When did you ask the question about being FRPP gears? Hopefully he just hasn't got the message yet. But if it's been a long time, I guess this is a deal to good to be true. Keep us posted.

Be careful of people who do not respond to questions on ebay.
Stang9325, If your car does not have many miles yet it will probably not need many parts at all for the gear change. The place doing the work should have, or be able to get, anything it may need for the install.

The extra 50 bucks spent with a reputable source is worth it for peace of mind, IMO. If the product isn't exactly what was advertised, you'll be kicking yourself for wasting $150 instead of saving $50.

I'll bet dollars to donuts he's gettng rid of "seconds". I had a member at my site get FRPP 3.73's and ended up with motive gears in a FRPP box. Ask the question "Does the casting say "Ford" on the gears themselves" If he'll even answer it, that is.

Before you buy the install kit, see my thread. http://forums.bradbarnett.net/index.php?showtopic=42795

Dustin... I just bought my gears from Parkwood Ford in Adairsville GA for $185.00 (FREE SHIPPING)... They are genuine FRPP 4.10 gears (Part# M-4209-G410)... Talk to Paul @ 1-888-FORD-SVT (1-888-367-3788) ext 120... These guys are a reputable FORD dealership. You may be able to save a few bucks w/ your ebay purchase if you want to take that chance, but I'd prefer to play it safe... Paul will answer any questions you may have....These guys also have a listing on ebay if you want to see it:

As for the install kit, Paul says you will NOT need it... They do sell the kit for $80.00, but there is no reason to buy it unless you are currently having problems with your factory gears... Remember, these are genuine FORD FRPP gears and not some other gear manufacture like Motive which would require additional installation kits...

There are not many GOOD deals out there anymore. I would spend the extra and buy from Ford direct or one of their dealers. You will never know until they are installed whether you got a good deal or not. Not worth the chance IMHO.

Ask your installer how the install warranty works. My installer will warrant any installation of parts he sells. If he installs a set of gears (any brand, although he recommends FRPP) and they whine, have flaws, etc... he will reinstall a new, replacement set without sticking me for extra labor.
If I buy a set off of Ebay or somewhere else and he installs them, then if there happens to be a problem with the gearset, I'll will be charged labor for the new install. Something to keep in mind.

That is exactly what I was told when I got mine. So, maybe I paid $30-$40 "too much"... big whoopie. I got a great install and piece of mind.

I finally got a response from Thunderbolt Motorsports
The guy says they are not Ford Racing gears because "Ford Racing gears have no warranty" and would not even tell me what brand they actually were. I'll order from Parkwood.
