4.10 Gears and Girdle
The topic says it all. My shop suggests that I get a beefed up girdle when I have my gears installed. What do you guys think? yay or nay? I'm not a weekely drag racer, just once in a while.
If you do, you'll need to relocate the panhard bar with a (BMR fabrication) bracket like the one shown in order to clear the girdle, or you will have to grind down the girdle and the panhard bar for it to fit. It will still rub under hard exceleration if you choose to grind. A girdle is just extra security. If you go to the track for an occasional run, a girdle may be overkill. It really depends on what tires and how hard you run it.

OK, David... I'll bite. What exactly is the benefit of the girdle?

I also use a stud kit on the main caps to make it even stronger.

Yea, that's what I was going to say!
Sorry I didn't elaborate. I knew the carrier wants to push outwards and the girdle will keep that from happening. I just have to get better at answering more technically as opposed to what else you would need. I go through things and try to help others avoid doing what I do. I.E. If you pull the tranny, you'll need to jack up the front of the motor...the tranny comes out much easier. Of course this was my first tranny extraction, but it'll be a hellava lot easier next time! When I put my girdle on
I had to grind it down a bit as well as the panhard bar. Now there is a bracket available and would reduce the headscratching.
