Is there a drastic decrease in gas mileage with 4.10 gears. I'm thinking that 4.10s will be my next mod but most of my driving is done on the highway. Right now I get about 20 mpg. Any thoughts? yay or nay?

Before ANY mods, I used to get 19.8 - 21.2 MPG, combination of freeway and in town, with alot of stop and go. I have since installed a Predator tune and 4:10's and I now get anywhere from 18.3 - 19.7, depending upon how "froggy" I feel from day to day.
It's a fantastic mod, trust me, you'll never miss the MPG.

Add me to the list... not much difference. On the open road, with cruise control set at 80mph, I get 22-24mpg. Around town, on my daily commute, still in the 17-18 range. But, I don't drive like a granny. lol

Hmmm, wait a minute. If everyone starts changing to 4:10's, my car won't be very special anymore. Forget what I said earlier, 4:10's are BAD. I am getting like 3-4MPG now. You shouldn't install them. :nono:

You realy wont loose much because you will now cruise in one gear higher than your used to.I mean if you cruised local streets in 2nd,you will now cruise the same street in 3rd.Also guys,I just took a weekend trip that I had to drive about 200 miles and I am very happy with the 4:10s.I could cruise at 80 in fifth gear at about 2,600 rpms.In fourth she pulled like a bear on the highway.Realy no downsides to the 4.10s

Chris,
I also have 4.10's and my gas mileage isn't too good at the moment. However, I'm still on the "gear honeymoon" and drive like a freak. I did the JLT CAI, XCAL2 93 tune and the gears at the same time and the difference is huge, especially through 1st + 2nd gears. No more low rpm "flat spot" and if you can hook up, you are sure to be quicker in the 1/4.
I'm only 20 minutes or so from you and if you want we can meet up and go for a spin. I'm always looking for a reason to drive it!

Must be contagious!
Actually, I have the original antenna also, but I noticed yesterday it has a bend about 6" from the top. If it won't straighten, it might get shorter somehow! B)

To all of you that went with the 4.10s, is this an easy mod to do or is it something you'd be better off paying someone to do? If any of you have instructions and could post them it would be appreciated.
Thanks,
OD
