I want to put 4.10 gears in my '05. Who makes a good one? I was thinking ford racing? Any other ones I should look into?

IMO, I would stick with FRPP. There seems to be fewer issues with those versus other brands.

Where did you buy yours from and how much did the install cost?

I had JBA Racing do the whole thing. Parts/labor/tax was about $620... which is similar to two other quotes I got here in San Diego. The installation was good, and the gears have been flawless for 6 months and 11,000 miles.

Ok, I will have to just shop around on my side of the country but thanks for the reference price anyway.

Quote I got from Anderson Ford Motorsports was $700 installed. They do real good work, do these and other performance installations all the time but are a little on the pricey side.

Livernois Motorsports here in Michigan quoted me $189 for gears and $300 for install. Probably going to get them next month.

yeah mine has been apart twice. i used two different brand gears and still have the same issue. i think the real problem is in the posi unit. ford had an issue in the explorer also which has the same lsd unit 31spline. now the mustang has the same type problems. i noticed when rotating the ring gear my backlash would vary as much as .006! it was the same with both sets of gears. the only thing i can think of that would cause it to vary like that is it's wobbling. only way it can wobble is the carrier must be machined wrong. ford did some dumb stuff trying to get rid of the noise in the 05-up mustangs did you notice the panhard bar is filled with sand, axle dampners and that aweful 40lb two piece driveshaft. all to get rid of gear noise. anybody replaced theirs with an eaton? any noise issues?
