3.73 vs 4.10 gears

I kinda want to get gears for my new Stang. I read the thread on fuel economy with 4.10 gears. Sound nice, sounds like yall really like them.
My buddy, who used to be really into modding his Mustang, said he thinks 4.10 are a bit too much and I should look into 3.73. What do you guys think? Would it be worth it? What are the pros/cons of each?
What are the tops speeds like for each gear when using 3.73 vs 4.10?
I'm getting less concerned with fuel economy, because like someone said, you just end up driving in a gear higher than normal when cruising.
Also, what is a good internet site to buy performance parts for a 2005+ Stang?
Seeing as how I'm a newbie to this stuff, please feel free to be as detailed as possible in your answer.

My opinion is 373s for a manual "daily driver" and 4.10's for the auto.

I'm going thru the same thought process. Been told by more than one person that the 3:73 is a good all around choice but that I might as well keep the stock 3:55 since the difference does not justify the cost. Ford does not have them (I don't think) but you can get 3:90's etc from other suppliers.

I've been debating the same thing. If I choose to change gears, I think I will go with 3.73 on my manual.

Great guys, thanks! Now I don't know what I want, I was almost ready to go with 4.10s now I have to consider 3.73s...
as a side note, the shop that I talked to tried to talk me into 4.30s for the same price as the 4.10s

Get the 4.30's.

Input your tire size... listed below are the gear ratios.
Manual: 1st 3.38, 2nd 2.00, 3rd 1.32, 4th 1.00, 5th .68
Auto: 1st 3.22, 2nd 2.29, 3rd 1.54, 4th 1.00, 5th .71

I don't see any reason to go with 3.73s... you'd never notice the difference (especially with a manual), but you'll pay just as much for them as if you went with 4.10s.

I love my 4.10s.You can cruise right up to 80mph and not brake 3,000rpm,s This is with a 5spd.Car even pulls hard in forth when I get aside of something interesting.First gear is just about useless .3.73s are definately not diferent from stock.

Manual, of course. I'm one of those people who's adamant about getting MT in a sports (err, muscle) car.
Ugh, this is too hard. The two camps are split right down the middle it seems: 3.73 are perfect for a daily driver vs. you won't notice any difference with 3.73's

I don't think you'll have any real problems in winter seeing as we don't get that much bad weather around here. That's easy for me to say, I've never even driven mine in the rain. I have an '04 F-150 4x4 for those days.
Sometimes I do take off in second gear, but only if I'm on a slight decline. Uphill you come too close to slipping the clutch for my taste. I'd bet that it's quite possible in the snow. Someone other than me would know better.

After tossing this issue around in my head for some time, I've decided to stick with the stock gears. With the older cars, going from 3.08s or 2.73s was a no brainer. I had 3.73s in my '97 Cobra and it was beautiful. My car wasn't a track car and the 3.73s really woke the car up. With this one, there really isn't going to be any difference performance wise with a change from 3.55 to 3.73s. The money will be better spent elsewhere. I'm not into the 4.10s. Guys who frequent the track, by all means. That's the way to go.

I do do a lot of driving for work, any from Wilmington, DE to northern VA, but I'm young, I can live with that!

There's a post here that an automatic trans with the 4:10's shifts from 1st to 2nd at 7mph and 2nd to 3rd at 15 mph. For you guys with 4:10's and manual transmissions, approx. at what speed do you find yourselves shifting during normal driving conditions? Thanks!
