2006 GT w/18's has different suspension
#1
I am not crazy about the fanblades and don't want to wait for the 18" bullits so I ordered my 06 with the base bullit wheels with the intention of immediately getting a set of 18" saleen knockoffs from mustang tuning. Now I see today that the GT's ordered with 18's gets a different suspension. Does anyone know exactly what this new suspension includes? Will the different dampers be better for when I lower it? should I just get 18's and transfer the tires to the new wheels? Thanks

where did you read by adding 18" rims you get a different suspension? If you were referring to the Pony package they called it a GT-ish suppension which means the V6 pony packaged does not use the V6 suspension nor the GT suspension. It is somewhere in between. I have not seen anything that says if you order 18" rims you get a different suspension. That wouldn't make much sense to me.

This is what I read on this site. It does not make a lot of sense to me either. I imagine it could be that with less sidewall, the regular gt suspension would give to much body roll.
More Wheels for Your Pony
Mustang GT also enters the 2006 model year with two new 18-inch wheel and tire combinations – the largest tires ever fitted to a production V-8 Mustang since the 2000 SVT Cobra R model – and unique suspension tuning calibrated to the larger treads. Customers who order Mustang GT with the larger wheels and tires receive recalibrated shocks and struts to compensate for the unique handling characteristics of Mustang’s shod with 18-inch rubber.
Mustang GT customers can now choose from the following four wheel and tire combinations:
Standard P235/55 ZR17 Pirelli "PZERO" tires on painted aluminum wheels
Optional P235/55 ZR17 Pirelli "PZERO" tires on bright machined-aluminum wheels
Optional P235/50 ZR18 BFGoodrich "Touring TA" tires on polished aluminum wheels
Optional P235/50 ZR 18 BFGoodrich "Touring TA" tires on premium aluminum wheels

hmmmm, that is interesting. Would like to know why the shocks and struts need to be replaced. Especially since my rims are 18" tall and tires are a lot wider than what FORD is going to put on them.

I would guess that they are going to "cushy" it a little so the 18's don't ride harsh so the posers can have 18's. We know that a properly tuned suspension used with/for performace tires with little to no sidewall will be kind of teeth-rattling. I fully expect mine to ride like a tank with 18/19x10's all around

Nobody knows huh? Let me ask this, What size are the wheels 18x8.5 or 18x9? Its hard to beleive a 235 tire woull fit on a 9" wide wheel, but I could be wrong

Which would make me think that the rim is 18x8.5
I remember on the 17x9 cobra rim, the smallest width that SHOULD be on there is 255 ... it should be 275s for a nice fit.
I went with 255s
So 235 on an 18 is probably 8.5" wide rim.
Anyone else confirm that?

235/50's would look odd with a 9" wide rim, the wheel would be wider than the tire. So this leads me to believe that the new 18" rims will either be 8" or maybe 8.5"...
BFGoodrich makes the G-Force KDW NT's in 235/50ZR-18, will these be the tires used?

I'm wondering if the 18" bullitt rims are also 8.5" or 9".

I think I am going to stick with my original order and get wheels and tires right away. Unless someone can convince me that this revised suspension is worth stepping up to???
