2005 coolant specification

I just got some motorcraft premium gold from the local ford dealer. But I was wondering what color/type coolant is in the mustang from the factory?
Does the premium gold mix with the green stuff?

you can mix it but don't if you live in a cold area. Gold is the way to go.

The coolant is gold from the factory, so you got the right stuff. Don't mix gold and green.

Thanks for the info. I will fill up with the Gold and a 50/50 mix (maybe 40/60).
Do you think it matters if you use distilled water or regular water? I was thinking maybe the distilled water would keep the system cleaner, but not sure if it would make a difference.

Distilled would be better, you are correct. Are you changing out the coolant, or just topping off?

I am actually refilling the coolant that I drained when I installed the supercharger. I drained the coolant into an old bucket so there is no way I was going to reuse the fuild.
Basically all the coolant drained out of the radiator and probably most of it from the engine above the top radiator hose.
I will pick up some distilled water on the way home today so I should be all set for the refill tonight.

Sounds good. Just keep it 50/50. No need to do anything else, more antifreeze and less water will hurt cooling ability. More water and less antifreeze will promote corrosion.

Tim,

Did you really have to drain the coolant? I saw where JDM does it without draining and just tops off the intercooler. What is your thought?

You have to unplug both the hoses and switch out the coolant bypass between the two cylinder heads when you install the charger, so you have to drain out enough coolant to get the level lower than the hose fittings. If I were doing it over again, I think you could drain less out of the radiator....if JDM says you cant, then you can. I just opened the port and put a oil catch pan under it until the draining stopped. If you have an 07+, then you will have to drain all the coolant since you have to replumb the hoses.

Wouldnt hurt to put a bottle of Red Line Watter Wetter in the radiator either. I use 1 bottle in about every vehicle I have ever owned. I hear Purple Ice is good too. I put 2 bottles in the '87 Grand National and never had any problems. Hey Tim u keeping that GN nice and clean in the garage?

No, the GN sees a lot of action because I switch off and on as a daily driver between the two cars. I have had the GN since '99.....completely redid the engine, heads, turbo, etc. It runs at 24 psi on pump gas with an alcohol fogger.
You have an 87 GN also? nice..

I owned an '86 and sold it to buy an '87 about 13 yrs ago. Then in a moment of stupidity I sold the '87 to buy a new '99 Z28. The Z was an awesome car but it didn't compare to the GN. Hell not many cars ever will compare. I had all the basic GN mods and ran consistant mid/low 12's on pump gas. Back in the early/mid 1990's 12 sec cars with stock reliability and 26+ MPG was unreal and GN's could easily pull it off with 4 more friends riding along. ****ed off alot of big blocks. Since they have got so pricey except for the Buick Nats at Bowling Green I don't see alot of them anymore and most of them have been beat hard.
