A big thing on the auto's is the right tune, with the base SCT tune then you'll be starting off good but if you want the most then you may wanna contact a well known Automatic tuner, myself included. With my automatic tunes I can drop another 1-2 tenth off of your current performance tune time just from my improved converter lockup scheduling. Not only that but when you goto the dyno with my tunes you wont get that annoying converter spike at 4800-5200 rpm's causing the wrong dynonumbers.

With an auto, a good CAI, converter and tune and you'll be well into the 12's....

Thanks, Doug.

Hey 2007TorchRed,

I know this is off topic but just noticed the 71 GSX in you profile, any pics?

I had a 70 Stage 1 GS, sold it when times were tough, worst thing I ever did, specially the person I sold it too was going to restore it but decided he could make a bunch more money parting it out. It was a real numbers matching Stage 1.

Good luck on your quest for the 12's, was snowing here today as well, and going to be int eh 40's on the weekend.

Hey TBone69 here are a few recent pics. I am sorry to hear that you had to sell your Stage 1. I would love to have a black or stratomist blue '70 Stage 1 GS. Are you going to the Buick Nats next month in BG? I haven't gone in a few years. The attendance has been steadly been declining the last few times I actually made the trip. Getting back to Mustangs I have Dougs 91 torque tune and a CAI on my '07 auto and his tune is worth every penny. Regardless what anyone else says my '07 auto is quicker than the '06 manual I had last year and I had a brand X tune and the same CAI installed in it. No wheelhop with the '07 either. I had massive hop without LCAs and more hop than I cared for with LCAs on the '06 which is the main reason my '07 is quicker. I don't have to get out of the gas every few feet until I get going down the road. Even without the wheelhop both would be about equal with the same mods and traction best I can tell. Now all I have to do is point and shoot and get rubber in 1st, 2nd, 3rd and a nice shimmy in 4th. Without Dougs tune I wouldn't be nearly as impressed with the auto trans. Now road racing is a different story but I don't care about carving curves so I am content with my auto trans. Now if I could save some extra $$$ and get some more mods. GET A TUNE IF YOU HAVE A AUTO!!!!!

Sweet GSX, as for the Nationals I never made it out there. I have a GN buddy who is trying to get me to go with him this time around, not sure if either one of our "bosses" will approve

As for the Tune it was the first mod I did, even before the CAI and it made a difference it the way teh car drove.

Once we get some nice weather I'm going to beat my best of 13.47, I've added pullies since then so 13.30's maybe. I also have a set of delete plates waiting for some warm weather to install and of course the new tune to go along with it.

I miss my '87 GN. The guy who bought it wrecked it, fixed it, wrecked it again, fixed it again and now it got new shiny black clearcoat paint and 600 hp worth of mods. I had it cranking about 370-400hp with very little $$$ in it before I turned stupid and sold it back in 1998. I hope he doesn't wreck it again, I might want it back someday. The Nats is about 75% GN and T's, 10% front wheel drives GS's(yuck) and the rest were '67-'73 GS, GSX, Riveras the last time I was there in '03. The $30 spectator fee sucks too.

Snow last Sat. and calling for rain this Sat. I think the local weatherman hates outdoor weekend activities.

I am FINALLY going to make some runs Fri night!!!!!!! Weather is supposed to be mid 60's with low humidity. I will post results Sat. Which tune should I use......TORQUE or RACE? I really like the TORQUE for day to day street driving and it seems more responsive to me but I hear the Race tune might be worth a tenth more at the track. And what about the O/D? Off or on? And of course have the TCC off.

On street tire forget the torque tune, i tried many times without any good result. Go for race.

For O/D always at off. one or two times with the O/D at on my car shift in 5 just before the line (i have a 4.10 gear). So off to avoid that.

After waiting 2 hours for the officials to clean up a spill after they started over an hour late to begin with I got only 2 runs before the gamblers race aka rustbucket races started. There were several other spills later too. This is my best of the two runs. Temp was about 63 degrees and the track is 1200ft above sea level. I launched at 1500 rpm with almost no wheelspin and ran ET-13.58/MPH-102.32. My 60ft was 2.08, the second run was a 13.65/101.86. I had to peddle it a little on the 1-2 shift. Must have been some oil from one of the numerous track oilings. You gotta love those race only cars. Anyway I will shoot for a 13.30-.40 the next time out with a better launch. One thing I notice was the car shifted into 4th about the 1000-1100 ft mark. Would raising my shift point or keeping the shifter in 3rd improve my ET or hurt it? All in all I was happy for the first time out. I beat my best time out of my '06 manual by 3 tenths at the same MPH.

It may improve it. Every shift takes away time(each shift takes away a couple tenths) so staying away from the 3rd to 4th shift crossing the line should help.

Next time I will keep the shifter in 3rd. I raised my rev limiter for 3rd gear a few 100 rpm just in case.

That's a good idea. Your times will most likely be a few tenths better by staying in 3rd.

Really fan123? How many times have you been at the track?

2007Torch- what rpm are your shiftpoints set at? If your were to keep it in 3rd, what RPM would you cross the line at?

Assuming the stock tach is accurate the car shifts at the 6100 redline. I am guessing if I keep the shifter in 3rd I should clear the traps by 6400 or maybe 6500 rpm at the most. When it shifts into 4th I am almost even with the timing board at the finish. Maybe 100ft shy of the crossing the line. That might put me at 6400-6500 rpm when I clear the traps. I have been told that the powerband maxes out around 6200-6300 rpm so I won't be making any extra power shifting later but I will avoid having to make the shift.

My parents havent taken the mustang to the track yet.But theoretically, staying in 3rd gear crossing the line should make for better times.

If you can keep it in third and cross the line at 6500, then do it. Good luck, have fun!!

I concur! Mine is still pulling hard at 6500. I have to watch it because it is easy to over rev because it just won't stop giving me power! Based on the info you will do well to stay in third

I hope to make it back to the track sometime in June. I would go this weekend but the monthly cruise is all day Sat. and the Mustang is the special car this month. All Mustangs will be staged in the center part of town and several area Ford dealers will be giving away door prizes and bringing out some special Mustangs like Shelbys, GT 500s, dealer modified versions and so on along with several regional Mustang clubs in attendance. Anyone in the Somerset Ky area should check it out. There are usually at least 900-1000 cars show up each month....mainly '60s and '70s iron with several '50s era hot rods but it open to all classics/musclecars and trucks. Modern muscle like late '80s and '90s Mustang GTs, Z28s, Grand nationals are numerous as well. I even saw a few Vipers and 1 Ford GT last year. There are going to be several car mags and TV shows filming at the July meet and the car total is expected to top 2000+. I will take the GSX to that one since there probably won't be another one there. Ricers are frowned upon and usually put somewhere away from the main gathering. Out of sight out of mind besides the rumble of American iron always drowns out the whinning(the sob sob second place whine sound , not the Grand National whoooosesound ) sound of the imports.
