2005 GT coupe. MANUEL

Mods:
93 octane performance tune by diablo
WMS ram air intake
JBA shorty headers

What is ideal launching RPMS for my manuel? Do I feather the launch or dump it? Mostly what rpms should I be launching at? and for 1st-2nd i get crazy chirping any ideas to help?
Temp was 48* High humidity, 5 miles from track was rain, but they say it didnt rain on the track. I dont believe my tires were hooking.
Stock pirelli tires Stock psi

Best run of the night...
60ft-2.064
1/8 - 8.824
1/4 - 13.582 @103.30

Every run thereafter was 13.6 n 13,7s
60ft were consistent at 2.3....

I think the track sucked for every car, there was a 6.0L GTO there that ran 13.7 and he had some slicks on. also an auto 05 GT that was running 14.6's ouch. any ideas?
Tried lowering the psi in back to 17 and front to 25 think that made it worse.... I'm launching at 2,000

No offense, but are you a big guy/gal?

THat could be the differance. I weigh about 255 and my best stock time was 14.0 in my manual 05 GT.

13.5 doesn't seem that bad if you are my size.

Im a light weight @ 135 and my times at the track arent bad. 2sec 60ft and a 13.4 @ 104. I spin off the line though with very little mods.

JLT short ram, Jet TB Spacer, BMR Lower Control Arms, Eibach Sportlines, Deleted Front Sway Bar/Passenger Seat/Spare Tire during that run. I could still get my times down with this setup, practice makes perfect.

Guys I also had the spare tire in back with a tool box that was bout 10 lbs. Have the shaker 1000 system too.

With the mods i Have now.
If I took all this out and the weather was a bit warmer and maybe during the day at a well known track, would my time be under or around 13.1.

Btw what should my car be running with just these mods alone.

I would like to add slicks but cant seem to find a pair of rims ot match a set. im horrible at the sizing. Anyone show me a set of rims and slick that look decent and work great?

Put the rear tires at stock 32 PSI and the fronts at 50 PSI. The 50 PSI makes the wheels have less rolling resistance. I back up to in front of the water box and rev to 5000 and spin the tires till I get to the starting line. Then I rev the RPMs to 2800 - 3000 and somewhat dump the clutch on 3rd yellow.

Lately I've been running the same times as you with about the same mods (well no headers here) in the same temp conditions. I make sure I leave the car shut off for about 45 mins between runs with icebags on the intake. Believe it or not that makes a huge difference, it runs way better cold. Heat soak is a big problem.

IF you're launching at only 2000 RPM with low PSI in the tires, I bet your engine is bogging down on the launch, no?

Take the spare and the shaker box out. I make sure I get to the track with 1/4 tank of gas or less, you have to do some planning to do that. Warmer temps will not make your car go faster, dry cold air will. Colder air is more dense which equals horsepower.

You can fit Mickey Thompson 3743R P275/40R17 ET street tires on the stock wheels, they run about $178 each plus shipping. I'll be putting these on in the spring.

Talk about a weight reduction. My friend Neal is a lightweight as well and he always runs amazing times. He is a great drag racer, but being skinny helps too.

I have always avoided the water box on street tires and never burned them out. I do a quick spin to get the gravel and dirt off the surface. I have been told by many experience drag racers that this is the way to prep a street tired car. Also, I have always dropped the PSI down from the stock setttings. It makes the sidewall less rigid, which should drop you 60's. I haven't taken my GT to the track yet, but this is what I did in previous cars.

I'm consistantly running 13.8xx with my 05, best time was 13.814, I just want to break into 13.7 a bit so I get something a tad quicker. I'm a fairly stock auto trans, just k&n and tune. I am a bigger guy at about 240lbs as well as having the shaker subs in the back. I dont take them out or change tire pressure at all, just avoid the water and rev to about 2000 to launch. I have seen 2 other 05's at the track and both were running best times of 14.2 and 14.5, so at least I'm doing better than them.

I can't wait to get back to the track. I have since installed my C&L/Xcal2 and my Hurst Shifter. I am hoping to beat me best (14.09) by at least .5 seconds!

I always do a burnout. The Nittos work much better when they are hot and sticky. I also don't think lowering the pressure in a street radial tire does much good. But, to each his own.

Sorry this is off subject...but how do you like your shorty headers? Are they the ram-horn design or the earlier design? Make car sound different? I'd get long tube but dont want to void warranty - as it seems my warranties always come in handy

Wow, I'm also a lightweight who could qualify to be a horse jockey. I'm glad it actually shows on the car lol.

I'm hitting 13.2's @105ish with 1.9 60's on the stock tires and stock pressure. I feather it out from a 2800 rpm launch and stomp it as soon as I feel it hook, which is generally pretty quickly.

Im begining my prep work for my return to the track on the 21st. My LCA relocation brackets are being welded in this Wednesday and Im still trying to get a hold of my friend to see if we can get the 410 gears installed in my driveway.

I will weigh the entire shaker 1000 assembly soon too and will probably pull it for this next trip for further reduction.

I have a CPR fuel rail to install soon too, after it arrives that is. Its really going to clean up the engine bay but I have to rethink my fuel solenoid's feed line.

There is no doubt in my mind that I will hit a high 12second 1/4 this next time out. Its my birthday party after all. :P

put some Mickey Thompsons on and you will for sure. I can't wait to get mine in the spring and launch at 5000 rpm without losing traction
