Thumbs up

so I am cruising along doing 60kph and I see a 2000 black GT swerving in and out of traffic behind me. He pulls up next to me, looks at me, pulls up to see the front of my car and then he does it. I hear his rpm's go up and then dumps the clutch. His back tires squeel a little, rear kicks out to the right a bit and off he goes, about 3 car lengths ahead of me. I never even gave it gas as I am not one to race on the streets but what I would like to know is, how did he manage to squeel the tires and launch the car that good when he was already doing 60kph?

My guess is he has different gears in the the rear. I was thinking of getting 4:10's. I have to admit, I tried doing this on my way home several times and could not duplicate what he did. I would coast at 60 kph, put in the clutch, shift into second, raise the rpm's up to 5,000 and dump the clutch. The car would launch pretty good but not as good as what he did. Darn it.

Maybe he has NOS? Those older model GTs have a lot less power, so he had to have something signifigant to do it.

They don't have that much less that is why I thought it had to be gears but if it was NOS he likes to waste it.

power and power-delivery are two different animals. Just because you don't break traction doesn't mean he is faster (or more powerful, for that matter). I'd show him some '05 tail lights if I were you (assuming he's not blown of course B) )

My experience with these 2 cars is SN95 = a lot more likely to break lose than S197. The '05 stays pretty planted unless you're REALLY trying to do otherwise. My '97 Cobra spent a good part of it's life lose, it's just the way the car was.

Exactly, the suspension on the 05 is quite a bit different. It really sticks. Plus, if you push in the clutch, rev it up to redline and drop the clutch you might be able to squeel the tires. Maybe his tires are bald as well

My guess as well, bald tires, the unrefined suspension and 4:10's

My guess is he downshifted and nailed the gas, car still has 300 ft/lbs of torque even though its 2v.

blame it on Need for Speed, cause I want 2 bottles of NOS so I can go faster.

My old 5.0 will do that too... I'd prefer it to hook like the 05 does!

the 2005 is almost perfectly ballanced front/rear (51/49) has 6 more inches longer and 1 inch wider giving it a bit more weight ,plus the tires have more "meat" on them and you got that tri-link rear end for more hook up and go.The 2000 GT could be chipped ,have narrower and "balder" tires and has much less weight in the rear of that car ( not positive but i think its 58/42 ...some where in there). And could have different gears.Mind you skinny ,bald tire's are a lot of fun ..they can break loose when you tromp on it ...i had a lot of fun with my 69 charger when I had one

Edited the title of a thrad started by Scothew originally named "Doug, I need to talk to you" to "Doug, I need you". Scott turned the joke around and gave me my C/T.

Its Nitrous Oxide, the abbreviation for it is n20 not NOS. There is no "s" in oxide.

NOS is only a name brand, its acronym stands for the company's name "Nitrous Oxide Systems".
