I occasionally lurk over at www.LS1GTO.com (Kill Section Forum) and many of those guys are putting down similar #'s at the track. The GTO's pull harder up top than our 'stangs but have a very difficult time hooking up. Many of them spin through 2nd gear and then have to play catch up, which is very hard to do. One guy was honest enough to admit defeat at the hands of an '05 Mustang, but most claim that we are no contest. Stock vs. Stock it's a close race to 60 mph or so. After that I wouldn't bet on it.

 

I know what it WONT take, and that a 10 thousand dollar higher price tag. Couple mods and the GT wins, and does so cheaper. Seems like they made the GTO just to try and beat the GT, seems like a good car but marketability for it is small with gas prices these days

 

I heard the GTO goes 0-UGLY much faster!

 

Ya, its a close race, but which car is gonna get more people flocking to it at a show, or in line at the drags?

Think they were go "oh i think thats a grand am, lets go look at it" or "oh man theres a new mustang lets check it out"

Why would anyone drive a GTO. I would let em win just out of pity for having to drive such an UGLY car

 

Just shout out the window "GM is going bankrupt!" That will distract them long enough to win.

no matter how fast... it is still ugly... and I can always add go fast parts...

 

A guy with an '05 GTO was going to race me, but before we could, his car was involved in a horrible accident.

I killed a 04 GTO. After he lost it was still ugly...perhap's even a little more ugly...The guy was spit'n fire mad. I would be too I guess.

 

I have run the 04 & 05 auto, not manual gto and got the win in the 1/4. My stang is a 05 gt auto.

 

Well, stock vs stock, the GTO should come out on top. As for price, i'm not sure they paid more than you guys did with your 'stangs. They got major rebates while most of you paid over sticker.

I have to admit, while fast, the GTO is ugly as heck. I can't believe GM dropped the ball so badly on this one. I'm praying they smarten up and do the Camaro....it'll be nice to see the Ford & GM wars alive again. Just in time for me to be prowling the streets in my Shelby looking for prey.

It would'nt take much that a few bolt-ons can't take care of. At 320 rwhp they'll be taken out(if that). They have something in the 350ish rwhp range, but are big porkers.
I bet many people here can take them out with their modded GT's

 

And UGLY-0 even faster yet.
