V6 or V8? I think it depends if your a young buck that has no problems paying high insurance rates, high car payments and have no problem receiving traffic violations. For me, at 52, the V6 has plenty of power and I leave most vehicles in the dust, especially young hotshots with zuped up trucks. As I have indicated on a previous post on this subject the 2005 V6 has a top speed of 112 mph and the GT has a top speed of 132 mph. You have to ask yourself where you are going to do either speed "legally?" other than at a raceway. To spend an additional $8000.00 to $10,000.00 for an additonal 20 mph that you will probably never use seems like a waste of money to me. Yes the GT looks nice with dual exhaust ( not crazy about the additional fog lights). This is just my opinion I am sure there are others on this forum with opinions to the contrary. By the way this is my third V6 Mustang is 22 years.

yea, the V8 is the way to go, it's a steal compared to other sports coupes on the market
and when will you ever go 100 legally? if we lived in germany i'd be worried about top speed, but here in America I'm worried about how quick i can get :drive:

I don't think anyone mentioned reliabilty. A lot more money goes into engineering the V8s in the Mustangs then the v6's The V8 will be a lot more reliable.

The 05 V6 will beat mid-80's Camaro's all day long.

V6 Camaros, maybe. But an 85 IROC-Z 5-speed versus and new V6 Stang? I'll take the first one any day.
If I were me, I'd always get a V8. Screw insurance; life's to short to live economically. You could buy a V6 Stang today, and tomorrow, terrorists might nuke us all. Life is meant to be lived; not to count money and save until retirement.

If you can afford it, get the V8 for sure. Its a good value for price/performance when compared to other sports cars. And it sounds a lot better when you start it up.
However, the engine in the v6 is the same as the Explorer and Ranger, which are now mature regression tested engines, so I think reliability is not an issue in this comparrison.

Well I hope the 4.0's hold up. Only time will tell, I don't recall hearing any horror stories about Rangers and Explorers recently. I think I read when the Explorers first came out there was a lot of issues with the chains. But they have been since resolved.

V8 or V6 doesn't matter...
but i've owned both... and both were fun to drive. (3.8L v6...so I can't compare to the 4.0...but knowing its got more oomph... )
and the fun factor hits 11 with a V8
The sound alone is worth the price of admission...
Then you add the torque in... booyeah

I disagree.
My 3.8L V6 is no peice of crap.
I am not comparing it to my 4.6 DOHC but for a V6 it is pretty peppy.
Dual exhaust and K&N drop in with 5 sp. it is just fine thank you.
Now the new V6 in the NEW Mustang, 210 hp, that is nothing to be ashamed of.
I have been trying so hard to get my wife into one.

I bougtt a V6 because of the following:
1) I'm only 18 and insurance is around $6000 a year with a GT
2) I drive from school to work and work to home everyday and gas mileage is very important
3) I got the coupe for 14k instead of the 20k for the GT
The GT was a lot more fun to drive during the test drive, but for now, I'll stick with my v6. In two years and I'm done with school, I'll buy a v8

Agreed. But hey im only 14, what do i know about driving cars.

On the dyno however its very different. les than 200 hp actually maybe close to 191hp

I saw a 05 GT auto with MAC Axlebacks baseline at 260 to the rear wheels SAE, and the V6 auto bone stock to the rear wheels SAE is 167.
I'm a big fan of all Stangs, and if I was shopping for a stang now, with my Neice gone (no longer paying for her college), then the GT probably would be the choice.
Just going by what I saw on an actual dyno.

V8, especially if a pre-3.7 V6 as the earlier 4.0 V6s were best suited for display at the Smithsonian Museum of American History. The new DOHC 3.7 V6, on the other hand, is a heck of a motor -- putting out about the same power as the 4.6 V8 -- and a worthy consideration even for a performance buyer.
