The standard louts elise is like $40k here in the states... i think the lotus exige is $50-something here in the states...

The one he's driving is the supercharged version of the exige.... I'm not even sure if you can GET that here, but i'm guessing it'd be close to $60k

Like someone said... they're comparing apples to spaceships haha they tend to do that alot

Yeah that was me LOL. A supercharged car that weighs about 2k compared to a N/A car that weighs 3500lbs? Yeah ....who is "They" btw. I'd like to right them about tarnishing our awsome cars name by putting it up against a track car.

Right, and if you don't like hearing them whine about him, don't read their posts.

Guys the Exige S is not coming to America. You mod the Stang to the same price, the Stang would hold its own. But the Exige weighs 2000 lbs its very nimble. On a very tight track that small wheelbase is very tough to compete with. Thats the thing they arent in competition. The one thing that chaps my ***** is British smugness. Hell the car has a Japanese motor in it. I wonder if it will have the reliabilityof a British car? America 1, the country whos **** we kicked many years ago for being snobbish 0.

Never said I didn't like hearing them whine..i actually find it entertaining. I was just making an observation and suggestion

that being said if it turns into a crying and whining thread about JC I'll lock it. Keep it on the cars. It's already deviated from the stang but at least it's on cars so I'm letting it ride for now...hoping it will get back on track.

I am gonna put this in the VS section

My respects toward the Lotus, a car with good handling vs a Mustang GT, a car with a lot of horsepower. As many people say, in that track, horsepower does not matter. Let's wait until that dude takes his Lotus Exige, a car he can barely fit in, in a drag strip or at least a straighter track, against a Mustang GT. Whose faster now huh.

But as I said, respects towards Lotus. They deserve it.

I'm sure that Exige would spank a stock Mustang GT on a straight race strip too.

I love my stang but I know when it's outclassed.

Our cars (05/06 stangs) weigh too freeking much - it's that simple. I'm hoping future models will be lighter.

I'm kinda wondering now about that drag race scenerio. I've seen this vid quite a few times and the stig is a professional driver and yet the Exige smoked it off the line..Now I realize that was only for a couple hundred ft till the turn so it wasn't a good guage. I do realize the 1/4 mile is alot longer and the stang could possibly make it up on the other end. Makes me wonder. I really have no idea for sure.

The Exige definitly has the power to weight ratio over the stang

JUst for the sake of conversation...heres some specs for the Exige S

JC knew what he was talking about. At least he didnt just rip into the stang. He's right though, that race WAS sushi vs hamburger.

During the turns, the Mustang GT was completely outclassed, but when the straights came up, it was right back on the brit's ***

Yeah, Clarkson has a ball with the cars, but I wouldn't put him in the same league as the Stig by far...

If it was the other way around, the Lotus would have been farther down the track...

It was all in good fun, they like the mustang for what it is and all...

Well a 195hp 1700lbs lotus Elise does the 1/4 mile in 12.6 sec...so i would say this one would be similar .... I think can guess what would happen tot he mustang.

Yeah, he tried to turn it into some sort of "British pride" thing. Ha! Lotus -- owned by Malaysians (Proton) drivetrain by Japanese (Toyota), how British is that?

If he really wanted to it be some sort of British vs. American thing, then he should have had the Exige vs. an American car that is more similar: a limited production, purpose-built sports car rather than a mass-produced Gran Touring car like a Mustang. Something like one of those little Panoz roadsters(Ford modular powered) or a Mosler Raptor (corvette v8 powered).

But to Clarkson, "All Americans are CRAP".

I like to think of the Elise and Exige as street legal go-carts. I'd like to have one....and throw a turbo in it...

I don't consider posts that boil down to "lets bash the Brits" as evolving. If you guys want to have a general chat about the faults of the brits vs americans or a topic about how much you hate JC then fine take it to general chat and keep it civil or I can assure you it will get locked.

We have british members here and I'm sure they wont like brit bashing anymore than you guys like american bashing.
