Top Gear Australia - Ford Vs Holden Challenge
#8
I would love to see a mid or full sized rwd sedan in Ford's US lineup, but if the G8 and GTO are any indication an Americanized version of an Australian car isn't the answer. Current G8 sales trends have that car falling short of what the Vette typically manages in a full sales year.

I agree, but they have to have the foresight to make a market if that makes any sense, they make a car called the something 281 over there (Ford that is) that looks like what Pontiac modeled their new GTO after, I would be really interesting in the Falcon too though it looks really wicked, and with a turbo 6 cylinder in todays economy I think there is a huge market.

Needs to be more Astony
Pretty cool, but at the end they said they'd perfer the LS3 to be in the Falcon, but Ford does build the equivelent, they just need to buy the Ford witht he 5.4 instead of the Turbo 6. Guess that wouldn't have made the show work as well, and then they would have to have declared a winner.
I was super suprized to see the Ford catch the holden in the drag even though the holden got a head start! I for one would love that inline 6!

For what it is worth I do think the Falcon would perform at least slightly better in the US market, partially because the Falcon seems to be a bit better known outside of it's home market than the Commodore and partially because the styling of the Falcon is a bit more distinctive IMO, but I wouldn't expect the Ford to set the world on fire. Frankly, the larger, softer, Caprice rebadged as a Buick would likely perform far better in our market than either the Commodore has or Falcon would because the added size makes it absolutely clear that this is a full size car and the styling has a bit of an American vibe to it...being both cleaner and more premium looking than the Commodore, but that is just my opinion. Even then I don't think rebadged Aussie cars are the answer, at least not if anything resembling high volume is the goal, and I think the market reaction to the GTO and G8 has proven this to be true.
