'These Two Pony Car Titans Have Been Duking It Out For Decades' ('98 Cobra v Camaro)

1998 MotorWeek piece . . . 1998 Cobra vs 1998 Z28 SS.

Seeing as how it's National Donut Day and all, it seems only fitting that we highlight a MotorWeek video that pits the 1998 versions of the Chevrolet Camaro Z28 SS and Ford Mustang SVT Cobra against one another. Because 'Merica!

Thanks for posting. I don't spend much time on YouTube. If the Camaro had the newer GS-D3 Goodyears on the car in lieu of the GS-C it would have had a cleaner start. They didn't exist back then but what a difference!! It's what I own today and the handling is every equal to the Michelin PS.
I agree about the 'split' decision rendered at the end. I've owned Mustangs and F-bodies most of my life (I bought my first Mustang GT off the showroom in 1982) and love them both equally. I have been behind the wheel of the F-bodies since 1996 (a new Formula) and enjoy my LS1 Trans Am still to this day. My GT/CS is incredible and it is nice that the new Mustang is so much better than the current 5th generation Camaro in both feel and size. That's my take anyway.

Whats funny is that after 15 years not much has changed, The Camaro is bigger, heavier and slower in the quarter but faster on a closed track then the Mustang.. as it is today..

A 98 Camaro SS is not actually slower than the 98 Cobra though. They just burned the tires so much off the line its a solid half second slower than it really is.

And that's why one shouldn't 'bench race!'. I do love 96-98 Cobras . . . wingless too!

True, but it sucks in a review to see a car appear to fail where is was really the fault of the driver.

Or car, i.e., the tires. Regardless, I agree, but fun to watch nonetheless!
