Subaru WRX STi vs. S197 Mustang
Which car do you think is better?
Is there more potential in the V8 than the 4 cylinder boxer?
What about HP to $ ratio?
Just wondering. My friends consider the STi to be a "mustang killer".

Those STi's cook. Out of the box i'd say a definite mustang killer. Those turbos pick up power pretty quick too when you mod them.
Mustangs arent really about going as fast as you can for as cheap as possible, otherwise youd all just buy an SRT4 and drop 5 grand into it and run 11s. Or buy an LS1, throw on some boltons, do a cam swap, and put 400 to the wheels...

Mustang GT ~ $30K = $100/HP
WRX STi ~ $39K = $130/HP
BUT
Mustang GT Weight/Power = 11.93 (3579 lbs)
WRX STi Weight/Power = 10.88 (3263 lbs)
Draw your own conclusions.

Needs to be more Astony
STI are faster stock but they are more expensive...have transmissions like glass. they say the new tranny is better but we will see as time goes by.
More can be done to mustang to make it faster then the STi... forced induction for one.
And you are kinda stuck with 2.5L with the STI so you end up adding hp you end up using race gas when you can equal power in the mustang on pump.

STi is a cool car, and I like them, but I don't think I could ever justify buying one of those over a comparable mustang.
God, think of the mods you could do with that $9K you have leftover!!!!

One of the guys at work has a WRX with major upgrades equal to the STi.
The 4x4 is a real help off the line.
Of course he still wants to go back to his old Mustang.
He had his 5.0 running 11sec. 1/4 miles.

For what it costs to buy a fairly loaded sti, I would rather buy a Mustang GT and spend the extra money on goodies. Now which car do you think would be faster after I was finished?? Like future9er24 said: "God, think of the mods you could do with that $9K you have leftover!!!!"
Mustang Killer, I Think Not.
