Sport Trac vs. Colorado/Canyon vs. Nissan Frontier

Though our F150 has been a great truck, I'm looking at replacing our F150 with something smaller and with more back seat room. I still want the convenience of having a open pickup bed when needed for hauling greasy car parts, Home Depot and dump runs, but would like better MPG and a shorter, smaller vehicle for easier maneuvering in tight spots since my wife will be the primary driver of the vehicle.

I've looked at the pricing of the Sport Trac, Colorado/Canyon, and the Nissan Frontier crew cabs and equipped similarly, the Canyon/Colorado is the least expensive, the Sport Trac in the middle, and Nissan the most expensive.

Which would you pick and why? I'm leaning toward the Sport Trac, but the Colorado/Canyon with the 5 cylinder is lighter and narrower... The Frontier is nice too, but I don't really see it having any distinct advantage over the other two especially considering it's higher price....

In addition to my Mustang we also own a 2001 Sport Trac. I've gotta say thats a heck of a good little truck! We've been very happy with it in the time we've owned it...

We own a 2004 Sport Trac (My wifes vehicle) and have had no problems with it. I try to rotate the larger tires more often to avoid cupping. The new one is lower and safer. I think it's the best choice out of your list. On a trip to Florida with the same 4.0 V6 and tranny as the Mustang we managed 21 MPG. I'm curious weather the availible V8 will get better milage since it should handle the truck better. I'd check into that if you can.

Odd for me to find this thread as I'm seriously considering a Sport Trac as my DD. The v8 and 4x4 is a must, though. I'll be driving some this afternoon, so I'll come back with my initial impressions.

I had several friends with colorados and they love them. I rode in one and was impressed at what the i5 could muster. Not a benz or a caddy but was nice. Me personally I had a huge problem with my sport trac 01. Traded it pronto before the warranty ended. Trans, Computer, passanger headlight, intake gasket, MAF, leaking battery all replaced under warranty. But like all makes there are some out there that are just lemons.
