What's with all the "street racing" threads all of a sudden?

Anywho . . . my only kill to date was a '95 F-bird Formula. Wasn't really fair, he was afraid to shift down to 2nd. I did, and barked them pretty good before I walked away.

Nobody else has wanted to race me. Does this car scare them away?

ZRX,
See about joining a Mustang club that gets "Drag Days" at the track
and you'll be able to pick up some techniques there. I am in a club
and I picked up good knowledge - and learned how to take off & go.

Good Luck,
Scott

Im 43 and have been drag racing at tracks since I was 18.Most of that has been with autos,so there's room for improvement I'll admit.I think my skills are OK,but there is something more as to why this car sometimes hesitates a second when hitting full throttle.I will be hitting the track again soon, just to get my clutch work better.

is it hesitating before launch? or when your about to shift? if its when your going to shift then its the rev limiter stinks on this car, get rid of it with a tune but you can beat it, it hits (oh its been a while so I might be off on this) at 5600 but the throttle body starts closing at 5300, shift then and you will leave that srt4 in the dust. again I was racing someone running at 10 lbs of boost and stayed in front of him at just beyond half throttle, they cant hang if you do it right, this car is great and most cars cant hang.

Stock for stock, should have rolled off and left him. Still, the guy could have had more mods than he was admitting.

yea this is pretty funny u know why?? because i raced a stage 1 and he had nothing on me....he was soooo upset that i beat him he gave me the bird. i whooped on the srt-4, and juuuuuuuuust beat the new 298hp 6speed manual G35's. i never had a more perfect run than i did with the srt....my shifts were all on target and my car sounded soo sweet. anyways im telling u these cars r beasts from a roll....from a dead stop u gotta be a good driver. tonight i learned the hard way from a dead stop. i went 2 and 2. but i raced some turbo'd cars and some stock cars. the turbo'd car i lost because my launch was bad which is our weakness because of weight

Oh, another street racing thread. Not good, guys. There is another larger site where they appreciate this. I don't. And yes, I am older and have seen the results of too many street races.
I think the solution here is for you not to read threads about street racing. Street racing on a performance car forum is pretty much to be expected.

If you are used to driving autos, do you know how to powershift? If you don't, then definitely learn it. It will lower your ETs a lot!

So he has a little sand in his mangina..... why don't we do something proactive instead of sitting here doggin' each other about a street racing thread..... lets just not talk about it for a minute until we can find him a nice minivan forum to participate in or something.... however, he may not be content with that either..... 'cause I saw an '86 Caravan with 6 lb blower run a low 12..... they might be talking about that there.

That guy in the SRT-4 was lying his pants off about that car being stock. If you insist on believing him, I have a bridge you might be interested in buying. Cheap.

yes,
every time I start the car that is the first thing I do.
The one thing that annoys me is having to flip off TC. Why can't it just stay off even after shutting the car down?

Although, if that is my only complaint life is good.

you can flash the comp to have it off when you start your car and have to push the button to turn it on.

I've experienced the sudden loss of power a number of times, most recently with a Pontiac Grand Prix GTP. I wasn't at all looking for anything this night, but he was next to me and when the light went green, we both edged out. I was driving normally but he jumped it big time with a slight pull away. I went to second with a power shift and low and behold, BLAAA....loss of power...then suddenly back it came. I had to catch up, which I did quickly. Once I dusted him, he wouldn't come near me again. I must admit though, that loss of power is annoying and does make you work harder to show them the back of the car.

dude,

no offense, but unless you're the world's crappiest driver, that car wasn't stock. I smoked one the other day effortlessly. He musta had some goodies in there to keep up with you. Oh yeah, my car is still bone stock.

srt4 runs 13.9 stock...unless ur a much better driver than that guy it SHOULD be a really close run.

to original poster:
"I so wish Ford put 350 hp in these cars "
put 4.10s and a tune in and ull be just as fast as if u had 350 stock

well, maybe that's the case, 'cause I left the guy by several car lengths. I'm not an experienced drag racer by any means, but I've been driving nothing but manual cars for 15 years, and had my share of street races. I must say I have a pretty good record. I do, however, plan on going down to the track and improving my skills. My last car was an AWD and there is definately a big difference.

This is just his opinion guys and he was simply expressing concern. There's no need to insult him for voicing it. What you do with your car and spare time is your choice, but don't expect everyone to like it. I personally have seen way too many accidents related to street racing while firefighting. Theres absolutely no reason to sink to a level of insults simply because he expressed a viewpoint.
