My friend and I decided to do a quick highway run yesterday. He has a 6 speed Touring 350Z, which is about 200 lbs lighter than my Stang. He ran 13.38@103.60mph with a JWT intake and Helix test pipes. My car has 1000 miles on it with a 91 Octane Predator tune. The first run I started in 3rd gear at roughly 70 mph. I slowly pulled on him into the middle of fourth and then shut down. The second time my friend wanted to start in at roughly 55 mph. I made the mistake of going into 2nd. The car was at roughly 5500 rpms and immediately I had to shift. This is where he gained on me a bit. He took the hit initially and this just caused him to pull me a car or so. I shifted in 3rd and I was very very slowly inching up on him into fourth, where he shut down. If we went a little longer I may have been able to make up more ground. I figure that my car traps roughly 104, given how the race turned out. I am going to purchase an intake soon, which will really wake up my top end power.

I never got a chance to run him off the line, since it was sunday and there was too much traffic. I personally think I would smoke him from a dig. Our motors seem to die a bit up top, hence the low trap speeds seen relative to the ET's. His car is geared closer and has better up top breathing.

BTW....I forgot to mention that the 13.38 he ran was with D/R's.

And your car can 'techincally' run that without D/R (13.4-13.6)

There's a topic on the G35driver.com website about a race with an 05 GT. The G35 beat him off the line, but the GT pulled him on the top end both times. I don't think that a stock 04 or earlier GT would be able to make up the difference. The G35 and the 350Z are impressive performers.

If you beat him from a roll, you'll take him off the line by a larger margin. Not many cars can match the 0-60 times of the 05. Definately gives you an advantage up front.

i have also run a 350z , it was from a dead start and i had him by a link and a half by the time i was ready to shift out of 3rd but he let off so i did too

i took him off the line and it seemed from that point on he stayed the same distance behind up to the point were he let off

it was a good race though

I raced one on a test drive about a three months ago. i felt a little bad racing with a car i wasn't buying but i won so i figured it was a good virgin kill for the car. plus the last thing i would do is grind a gear, so screw it. Funyy enough my friend ended up buying the car and once i told him, he was just stoked that it could beat a z. Not that i was ever worried.

I honestly think that off the line, he wouldn't stand a chance. This is assuming I can outlaunch him. I haven't taken my car to the track yet, so my lauches might not be optimized.

I agree. Off the line is a whole different story. But it would be a close race either way with the mods you listed. Take him from a stop and then let us know what happened.

Follow up:

Ran him again last night. Since then he has added a JWT Flywheel/Clutch and a Borla true dual exhaust. The car recently put down 255 rwhp on the dyno. We raced from probably a 5mph roll thru 3rd gear on an empty road. First gear gear I pulled out maybe 1 car and another 1/2 car in second. Once I hit third he hung back there holding equal ground. He later claimed he spun thru first and second because of the temperature and its affects on his S03's.

Basically, we should not have any problems with a stock 350Z from a dig or roll. As stated before, his car holds the bone stock 1/4 record for 350Z's. FYI....haven't gotten my C&L in yet.

I ran a 350z from a light up to about 95mph and I had him by about three car lengths. At the time my 05 was stock and I drive an auto, since I have added a CAI and SCT tune. I think I would smoke the 350z now because I raced my friends stock 05 since these mods and beat him by about 3 lenghts.
