Overdrive on or off?

I have a 2010 Mustang GT Auto & I wanted to know of I should have overdrive on or off when racing? I'm not really sure what the overdrive does but I would like to know what you guys think. I have a JLT CAI & Tune. I usually just street race not track.

You may want to rephrase your post. TMS does not advocate street racing and threads become locked if the topic is directed towards said subject matter.

Edit your post but leave the OD off when racing.

From a stand still- it wont matter if it's on or off. WOT is WOT...

If you're are say 65mph 2k rpm with it on. turn it off you'll jump to 3k rpm- a better power range. So it makes more sense to have it off for quick jolts. if you WOT it... it doesn't matter, as it will drop you to the lowest possible gear regardless of over drive on or off.

I sometimes use it to engine break when you have to just tap the breaks and such.
