I keep going back and forth and I'm not sure which way to go. I'm the owner of a 97GT. I do like my car alot but I have things I'll need to do in the near future to the car to get it up to my picky standards. It will need:

A paint job
All new carpet
Newer seats (2000 or newer GT)
New windows in the door (slim jim scratches)
Complete retint
New bezel around the shifter area (crack)
Brakes
Driver Side belt

I was thinking about getting a newer 00-02 that doesn't have any of these issues (if I can find one) but it would need the following items which I have on the current car:

Eibach Springs
Cold Air Intake
Throttle Body
March Underdrive Pulleys
Flowmaster Cat Back
Maybe new wheels (if they aren't Bullitt style)
UPR switches on the interior

I would get an automatic increase in horsepower, cleaner car inside and out off the used car lot. It's the starting from scratch on the other items and having to pay for them all again. I would talk to the dealer about switching out the UPR items though. I would look for a silver/gray color or maybe (depending on the price) a Bullitt. I wanted a Mach 1 but I don't need it and I'm retiring from the Navy in 3 years and I want the car paid off before I get out. I would like your opinions since alot of you have been there done that.

Looks like around $3,500, give or take. I'd strongly consider using that amount towards a newer model that would not require any repairs.

It seems the horsepower and better seats are the biggest thing. Has anyone moved from a 96-98GT into one of the newer ones?

I went from a 00 gt to a 96 cobra but that really doesnt count :P

I say get a 99/00 car. All of the mods on your car now should switch over fine. If you go 01+ some of the stuff like the CAI and pullies wont work. You will defintely notice a power increase.

I'm sure I won't be able to switch over the mods since I'm trading it in. The big thing is the springs and exhaust. I'm not worried about the pulleys that much. Like you said, I'd notice the horsepower in the newer car.

Oh, and your Cobra is looking good!

Get a newer mustang, it will have more upgrades, more power, and plus it will be nice and new.
