Lol. I think all of us have that vehicle. I used to compare everything to the m3. If I could buy a used m3 for that price, I should be buying that. I would be lying if I didn't admit the motor trend article between the m3 and 11 gt didn't change my life.

Straight line: probably the Z by a little but still a driver's race. Torquier Stang motor might make it a little easier to launch than the Z, but not necessarily faster. In the end, its rear wheel torques that ultimately matter, not necessarily crank torque, and a higher revving but lower torque could take advantage of that revibility through tighter gearing to actually put down more rear wheel torque.

I did some back of the napkin calculating of a 4.6 Stang vs. my 3.2 M3 and while the Stang certainly had a torquier motor than my M3 (320 vs 262, IIRC), the M3's ability to zing to 8K and thus run significantly tighter gearing actually gave it a bit of a rear wheel torque advantage as is generally reflected in acceleration times where the E46 M3s are generally a few clicks quicker than a 4.6 Stang. 370Z may be a similar case. 5.0 Stang, fahgetaboutit, it would crush both my M3 and the Z on the straights.

Curves: Wave bye bye, especially if the road isn't creamy smooth. While the Z is no Lotus Elise-class feather weight, it is significantly lighter than the Stang be a few hundred pounds, sits a bit lower (presumably lower CG) and sports a more sophisticated suspension, especially in the rear. All this tends to foster superior handling overall.

Addendum: 2015 Stang should be both 100-200 lbs lighter according to rumors, a bit tighter size-wise and, finally, have a modern IRS to take its handling dynamics up to the next level. Nissan better be hard at work on the next Z.

Both cars stock, I raced an auto 370z and my 5.0 definitely pulled away... So, I would think it would be fairly close with the 4.6. Hooking up, though, may be your issue... 370s have some wide tires out back.
