Well lets put up the specs:
The Cobra is:
Engine
Type: V8
Displacement cu in (cc): 330 (5409)
Power bhp (kW) at RPM: 390(287) / 6250
Torque lb-ft (Nm) at RPM: 385(522) / 4250
Redline at RPM: 6600
Brakes & Tires
Brakes F/R: ABS, vented disc/vented disc
Tires F-R: 265/40 ZR18
Exterior Dimensions & Weight
Length × Width × Height in: 183.5 × 73.1 × 52.2
Weight lb (kg): 3589 (1628)
Performance
Acceleration 0-62 mph s: 4.4
Top Speed mph (km/h): 175 (280)
Fuel Economy EPA city/highway mpg (l/100 km): n.a.
The Comaro is:
5.7-liter OHV V-8
320 horsepower @ 5200 rpm
345 pound/feet @ 4400 rpm
56.5 horsepower/liter
Couldnt find a 0-60 time with the SS, but the horspower and I am sure the weight diference is substantial.

these two cars arent even in the same price range. R=$54,995
back in 2000, you could have bought 2 camaros for the price of one R.
of course the mustang will win(although not by much, and certainly not by double the time). no brainer. c'mon mustang fan, make it a fair competition. its like pinning a V6 mustang against an SS.

you could buy an SS, and with the money saved from not buying the R, you can make the SS go faster than the R easily. and you can put an ugly butt wing on it also if you want, a la the R

ok then compare the 2002 SS which sold for $37,460 and the 2003 Cobra which sold for $34,750 :drive:
If price is what ur concern is... this is closer rt?
Well the SS's 5.7-liter V8, rated at 325 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque
While the Cobra's 4.6 SC'd V8 is rated at 390 hp and 390 pound feet of torque....
this was just a quick search but u guys can compare alla the other stuff... MY OPINION COBRA OVER THE SS ANY DAY!

Well I know that we are now comparing the SS to the 03-04 Cobra, but I would pic the SS cousin the WS-6 Firebird with the optional SLP Lid, exhaust ect. That would place the HP for the WS-6 in the 340+ range. Stock for stock I would give the win to the Firebird WS-6. On the other hand, the Cobra will respond very well to mods like exhaust, chip, ect. so I really think the two are great cars. And no I don't own a f-body

Mustangs (and Capri's ) had better 0-60, 1/4 mile time for the most part in the 80's. The 5.7 in the Chevy and Pontiac was only offered with a 4-speed auto for a number of years. (I'd have to pull out some of my old magazines to get exact numbers.)
Dollar for Dollar Mustangs was the 'best bang for the buck' in the 80's.

lets please not let this thread turn foul.... I'd hate to lock it. I have seen dozens of these threads in various forum and they always end up. Show that you guys are better than that Just a preemptive speech from me :P
You have to choose cars with equal performance and price. I.E. 2000R vs. z06. You have equal performance, but lil bit more price with the R i believe. The R is a purpose built race car that just happens to be street legal as well. No a/c, no radio, no backseat, heck does it have carpet? j/k The z06 is a full weight street car. Put em on the street and the z06 can hang with the R rather well.. put em on a road course and I bet hte R walks it.
Take a Ws-6 like Rtgreen suggested with the options.. pit it against a stock 03 cobra. Its going to be a toss up. good driver in both, will make it a close race. Sure the ls1 is at a power disadvantage, but it has a live axle and a killer 3rd gear. More than likely the ls1 will take the snake off the line due to the cobra's IRS causing wheel hop, but the cobra will pull strong past 40mph or so. Its a toss up
