Ok,
I stepped on my friend's toes a little bit today. Quick background..we always raz/joke with each other constantly. Here's the scenario....we were talking cars and which cars I'm looking at....well I'll just type it:
------------
Him: What cars are you looking at?
Me: Mustang and Subaru WRX...and a few others
Him: Get an suv
Me: Nah not an suv guy
Him: Get a truck
Me: Nah not a truck guy
Him: Get an M3
Me: Nah, I'm more secure in my manhood than needing to have that car to make me feel like a man.
--------------
From that point he went on diss the Mustang and say that the M3 would cream the Stang. I responded by saying the Cobra and Subaru Sti could compete with just a few tweaks....with keeping the tag under $50K
I think the M3 CLS or whatever has a 0-60 time of 4.3. While a GT and Mach has mid 5's.
Of course the comparision isn't fair due to BMW's $50K price tag.............WAY out of my range.
So my question is how much money WOULD it take(a GT or Mach 1) to get a 0-60 time of 4.3?

I should clarify.......he was trying to compare M3 car to a GT.
He wasn't thinking Cobra or Mach 1.
Just saying Mach 1 makes my mouth water........I'm sure it would dry out my wallet.
Oh BTW.....it feels good to be a GT member.

Well even if that gets you halfway.........that makes it a $25~$30K GT <--(big OVERESTIMATE) to a $30~$35K car.
I'm not planning on going that route....I'm just curious how much price difference. I'm sure you could still have enough money to upgrade interior too.

The BMW M3 is a nice car, and I would love to have another Bimmer again.
2003 BMW M3 specs:
HP: 333@7900
Tq: 262@4900
Wt: 3,415 lbs
1/4 mi: 13.2 @ 109 mph
0-60: 4.7 sec
2003 Mach 1 specs
HP: 305@6000
Tq: 320@4250
Wt: 3465 lbs
1/4 mi: 13.51 at 103.67 (MM&FF)
0-60: -
It would come down to how good the M3 driver is. Also, a Cobra would easily walk an M3.
About a new GT, I'm betting that it the numbers will be close to the Mach 1 numbers.

A Mach with gears, tires, exhaust, and shifter should toast an M3, in a straighline anyway for less then half of what a M3 costs of course this is apples to oranges.

That can't be right.
Do you have that issue of MM&FF when they tested GT, Mach 1 and Cobra?
Mach 1 best 1/4 mile time was 13.156 @ 105.35.

Different article. The one I got the info from was from the Mach 1 vs. GTO article.

With $25K of mods I'm sure it would COMPETE with the M3. I just thought it was unfair to take a cheap shot, when there is a $20K+ in price difference.

the M3 is more of a social status sports car. even if it has 4 doors 13.2 from the factory is still a sports car. where no matter what you do to the GT it will still be a mustang. ill take a mustang anyday. but if i could afford it i would get an M3 for my daily driver and have the stang for nice days and weekends. but depending on all things the Mach 1 and M3 are pretty much dead even in acceleration. dont think the mach could go all out on the road course w/ the bimmer. atleast not a factory Mach. but the 25,000 price difference could make that up easily

In a straight line, you will be nose-to-nose M3vs Mach1.... if you were to spend the extra money on a Cobra, no match.
If you are just looking at straight line performance it is not a challenge to throw a few bolt ons and go M3 hunting. On a road course however, I think the M3 will beat any one of the three.

$25,000 of mods will turn anything into 10 second street/strip terror, a new Mach 1 or even a new edge GT for that matter with $25k of mods put into it will not compete with an M3, it will blow it away

That's pretty much what I figured, but I'd rather have the Stang and save the cash. Even with the left over cash, there is probably room for interior upgrades. I know it won't match a BMW's interior, but you have $20K+ to deal use on other mods.
As far as performace I always think the form of straight line road.
