im thinking of not buying a new 2005+ mustang. Im thinking of buying a used 1996-98 Cobra. and make it into a project car for life. put some serious cash into over the years. but i wanted to research some crate engines and put a 302 or a 331 in it. anyone know a good reliable place to look for them?

Ford Racing has excellent crate engines and reasonalble prices. Check the catalog at www.fordracings.com

A 5.8, 351ci delivers 385hp and 377lbs torque at the flywheel for around +/- $5K. I think the compression ratio round 9.0:0

You'll have to change out the front undercarriage, they changed in '96 when they went Modular.

yeah, i dont know if it would be worth it to chang eto a 5.0 the cobra motors are built very well and can make plenty of power. i would just save the 8k+ to swap and spend it on mods for the 4.6

You could purchase a 94-95 Cobra. It would be easier to add on the cosmetic changes of a 96-98 to a 94/95, and they have a 302, so a swap would be much easier to a stroker or 351.
