GTO - great engine.

But lets just call it what it is, right?.....

A MONARO.

 

I believe that the Camaro and the Mustang were closest at first interpretation, the early years in 67-68, after that body change in 69 both the stang and the maro got thier dimensions enlarged, but I think the two took seperate paths. I do not in any way think the new concept Camaro is ugly, I actually think its a great looking car, but I thought the same when I saw the Concept for the mustang in 03(?) look how much it changed from that two seater concept, to the 05 stang. Thats how much the camaro is gonna change, and if i remember right, the stang concept was supercharged right? well that extra boost was to raise the hopes of enthusiast, just like the 400 hp "base model" the camaro is trying to portray. I do hope that this competition shows its face soon, the stang will get its power boost soon enough, and when it does, we wont need to worry about those marobird fans B)

 

The GTO(Monaro) is a great car, high quality all the way around. Sure it is bland or ugly to be called a GTO, but if GM had left it badged "Monaro" or something, and marketed it as a dirt cheap C55AMG or M3 competitor I think it would have done alot better.

 

I gotta disagree on this one. I think theres a lot of people out there who are just fans of v8 muscle, and this one is gonna come down to bang for the buck. Theres always gonna be diehards, but i dont think they make up the majority of people buying modernday musclecars.

 

IF they actually put what they showed into production, the price of it would rival the GT500...and the GT500 would eat that lamero alive!

Comparing the production Mustangs to two concept cars aren't even in production (and will proabably be much different if the concepts actually reach production) is kind of pointless.

It's like comparing the production Mustang to Speed Racer's Mark Five. Of course the concepts have huge horsepower and whiz-bang gizmos. Concept cars are fantasy and production cars are reality.

 

I think it would better to focus on whether any of these three cool cars are diminishing import sales. If the camaro and challenger steal any sales, let's hope they are from sti, evo and 350z owners. I'm pretty sure though quite a few gm guys have put off buying a new car due to waiting for this camaro.
