You give this slk too much credit!! Plus listen to what revs hes shifting at. BMW's and Mercs given way too much attention in this country. I'm from England where I played against BMW's in my Focus 1.8 diesel and played well, not got anywhere near same muscle as the Mustang. Bring em on I say!!

The SLK AMG (if it really is) has an 8 and runs 5.5's ... Not superfast, but it should beat a stock GT (was NOT a cobra or Mach -- could tell that much) .. It had to have been a GT with a power adder.

I did a state inspection to an AMG a while back, it was a 3.2 liter supercharged so I guess it was a SLK32 maybe? It was certainly a nice machine and although lacking torque, it pulled pretty hard.
In America, Mercedes and BMWs aren't quite as common as they are in Europe so the the people who own them usually take good care of them and thats why I believe those cars get attention and good reputations. Just my .02 at least

Noticed that they not as common over here. Market in Europe has been flooded with them over the last 5 years so I may be biased and just not rate them. I know they are a nice car but do you not think they are overrated??? I am running my GT with K&N and chip and would gladly tangle with any Beamer or Merc. Pardon my language but they seem to lose there ***** quite early on. Having never driven them myself I cant tell for sure but from racing them this would seem feasible, either that or they just dont want to push their machines.

I'm trying to walk the fence here, lol! Of course I am biased towards Mustangs and V8, rear wheel drive cars, but from the handful of Audi TT's and the one AMG I've driven, they certainly aren't slouches. I'm not talking about a BMW 7 series or a Merc C-class, they are just nice, slow luxury cars. The AMG series are performance-oriented cars. They (and TT's seem to have more power in the higher RPMs and top speed whereas Mustangs have low end speed and torque to get you off the line quick. Which also seems strange in that video as the GT had to play catch up... we'll just say he has so much power he couldn't get any traction till 3rd...!

I agree 100% about that video. What happened to the Mustang? Must have lost traction because that just looks wrong. Either way ha ha Mr Merc, you got wasted by a Mustang. lol Go park it up buddy or even better still, go do it and video it again, in the daylight with your window open so the general public can hear whats going on. Did they know they were going to cause this much debate when they put that video on the internet??

oh theres LOTS of street racing videos on the internet, this one is just another brick in the wall...
probably the best street racing video I've ever seen was a Diamond Star Motorsports car (early 90s Eclipse or Talon I think) against what they called was a Lingenfelter corvette but it was actually just a vette with a lot of motor work done to it. This AWD DSM ripped out of the hole like a banshee and then a few seconds later this vette screams by like a rocket and the kids inside the DSM were like "holy..........crap!"

I'm not bashing you dude......I'm just saying you can't put MB and BMW in the same class. If you lived near jersey, I would race you with my Beamer! That car surprises me sometimes.

Did you say AMG's don't have low end torque...mercedes has some of the torquyest engines around.

Mercedes makes some amazing engines but the rest of the car cant quite keep up imo.

That was my point, missed posting it. I have a friend that is actually looking at the SLK AMG now. Not my cup of tea (and a wee bit expensive), but its no slouch.

It looked like from the video that the Stang driver was toying with him at the start and then opened it up. I wonder what kind of power adder he was using. Neat video Jeff

OK, so what are we saying about this video then? Was it an AMG or just a super stang or maybe a combination of both? Granted Mercedes and BMW are desirable cars but the price tag....... Are they really worth it? Fine to post the specs but when you post the prices as well.... Not knocking these cars, they offer superb build quality with a real nice drive but I for one would never buy one. I bought my mustang because it offered my performance at a great price, I loved the looks, the sound and I took interest in its history/heritage. In the end each to his own I suppose.
Road trip Hiroller??

The mustang was toying with the Mercedes....He didn't lay on the throttle til the merc thought he had won...
I would never buy a mercedes but like i said eariler they sure know how to build engines with lotsa torque!

I'm in a weird position I own both a 2006 Mustang GT Vert and a 2003 BMW 540i M sport. BMW's are not over rated.......just underappreciated and overpriced. The 540 comes stock with a 300hp 32 valve V8. This car will do 140+ MPH for as far as you can drive it. The engine spins to 6500 RPM without even trying. I have never lost a race in that car to a 2004 and prior mustang. (never raced a cobra though ) I have a cold air kit, Dinan Perf Software, 3.55 gears, and Eisenmann exhaust. Until I put a tune, 4.10 gears, and C&L intake on my 06 stang, it couldn't keep up with the BMW.

As an aside, I've also tangled with an AMG C32 with my '05 recently. That is also nothing to be taken lightly. We need to keep something in perspective. AMG vehicles are VERY expensive and have heavily massaged engines right from the factory. They are no joke.
