well they were Dinans not normal M3s so they are suppose to be top notch....and the 98 is modded....so it shouldve done better. But then again I lit up a newer version than that with my 98. But that was because the driver was a tool and didnt know how to drive...he missed at least one shift.

Ryan-

Dude...seriously.

1. I never said stock for stock who's was faster.
2. I never mentioned mustangs and m3's in general....my car and his car.
3. crazy handleing and plush interior.....that's nice...they pay 20K or more for that
4. status symbol? Every person I know who drives a bimmer is an ****. People buy BMW's because they can't afford Mercedes.

The only thing being compared is my car...and those two M3's. One of which was modded.

jeesh.
Sorry Richard...but they buy BMWs because they cant afford Mercedes?

Depends on the models I guess but if you are talking that high end...they are very comparable....as for now Mercedes has higher end cars so they reach the insanely priced with the SLR McClaren but for the most part they are even....I wouldnt buy any of them under the 70,000 range everything else is crap and overpriced...yeah that range is high but at least you get some balz to back it up and the luxury at that point is something you can only get in the 100 grand range.

well, as ryan was commenting...its a "status" thing. Arround here, and I know in Encinitas too, you drive a mercedes if you can...a bmw if you have to.....purely on the fact of the name, not performance.

and youre right BMW owners are *****....they tend to all be pretentious snobs who bought it because they think they will be cool sporting that emblem....and they drive as though they are king of the road....although I must say from having driven BMWs in the past and have been known to reach speeds in excess of 150 on the freeway in one (I know for shame...I was young and dumb) you do kind of feel as though everyone on the road should move out of the way...I dont know why....perhaps because they feel as though you are not moving that fast like in a sports car....and in a better car like a Ferrari you are afraid to break it or crash. So the beamer seems appropriate to be the snob car.

right, I am not saying that BMW's are more performance driven (no pun intended). I am saying that...imo.....a BMW is a poor man's Mercedes. Status wise. Now performance wise...I wont argue that point.

I have respect for both cars, that’s why I'm writing this because you didn't "demolish" anyone.

Mustang 1/4: 13.8
M3 SMG 1/4: 13.8
According to motortrend.com

You have modifications, not just some minor throw-ins…The M3 is stock. Also comparing yourself to a build in its last year or so when it’s our first is kind of weak. I'm sure they will kill us next build. Also yes there are factors like cost, 30k vs 55k, but the car does have some crazy handling and a very plush interior so factor that in how ever you want. Also the whole it is a status symbol although not as much as a 7 series or a Benz.

Once again no hard feelings, I just felt it needed to be said. Congrats on putting your cars to use safely (as you mentioned no weaving or anything) and having some fun.
Why did it need to be said?

The original poster never compared his cars to those cars - you're doing all the comparing. All he did was basically say he beat those guys in a straight line, rolling start race.

Ok a couple of things to state-

1. I know I shouldn't have done this. I have spoken out against speeding...but I never exceeded 80 mph.

2. I might have gotten in trouble from the 5-0 if they had seen it...maybe not.

3. I considered not even posting this, because I know I will get flamed...but I figured the story is well worth it...because it results in me kick the **** of a 2002 M3 with SMG.

With all of that being said, you don't need to comment with....you shouldn't speed, don't race, etc.
So I am driving down the 5...and my buddy calls me (he and his bro have matching '98 M3 DINANs) and says he is meeting up with some people in his car club for a cruise. So I stop off the freeway and meet up with them in a parking lot.

Car's involved-

2002 Black M3 coupe, with SMG. Stock.
05 (new?) Blue R32. Weird car, truboed, looked like a Golf.
1998 Yellow M3 coupe; DINAN exhaust, intake, computer, suspension.
My car- see sig.

So we get on the freeway...and the meter light was on. I get next to my buddy in the '98 M3...and we are lined up at the light. Light turns green...and I demolish him. He did have another person in the car though.

We get on the freeway...medium traffic....4 lanes.

4 lanes....4 cars. We each took a lane and slowed traffic down to 35mph. this is on the 5 freeway where the normal flow of traffic is 80. We only did it for a second...but then...we took off. I already told them I wasn't gonna go over 80, so don't expect me to.

everyone rev'd, and I dropped it in to 3rd.

The R32 was sad. It sounded weird, he had a passanger, and he got left behind.
My buddy in his '98 soon got left to.
Now, the '02 M3 kept up....but as we approached 70mph...I had half a car length. I heard him shift into 4th, so I did as well....and I was a full car legnth ahead of him and right at about 80. So I shut it down. I was surprised the M3 couldn't keep up. there is no replacement, for displacement.

My exit was coming up so I waved goodbye. My buddy said that the guy in the M3 wants a rematch. Saying he messed up the SMG or something. I guess they were all surprised at what the new stang can do.
I was very proud my lil' american car could keep up and demolish the germans.
You shifter to 4th at 70??? i do that at 100 or so when i am racing

Well..... no comment..... as the owner of the car in my sig and a 2004 M3 6 speed manual....... all I know is that the M3 will take my mustang easily. I have heard that the SMG in the M3s have problems and generally stink. But the M3 is A LOT faster than the mustang..... maybe not it raw power, but in power delivery, it is a lot faster. Now, not saying I dont like my mustang, and also the M3 is more than twice the price of my mustang, the mustang is one heck of a lot of car for the price. I love both my mustang and the M3.

I love both my mustang and the M3.
Interesting mix of cars. M3 is a revver, Mustang more biased toward midrange torque. M3 is higher-tech, Mustang is nothing groundbreaking, just lots of fun. Good to know there's someone out there who appreciates both.

What do you like most about the Mustang in contrast to the M3?
