Ok a couple of things to state-

1. I know I shouldn't have done this. I have spoken out against speeding...but I never exceeded 80 mph.

2. I might have gotten in trouble from the 5-0 if they had seen it...maybe not.

3. I considered not even posting this, because I know I will get flamed...but I figured the story is well worth it...because it results in me kick the **** of a 2002 M3 with SMG.

With all of that being said, you don't need to comment with....you shouldn't speed, don't race, etc.

So I am driving down the 5...and my buddy calls me (he and his bro have matching '98 M3 DINANs) and says he is meeting up with some people in his car club for a cruise. So I stop off the freeway and meet up with them in a parking lot.

Car's involved-

2002 Black M3 coupe, with SMG. Stock.
05 (new?) Blue R32. Weird car, truboed, looked like a Golf.
1998 Yellow M3 coupe; DINAN exhaust, intake, computer, suspension.
My car- see sig.

So we get on the freeway...and the meter light was on. I get next to my buddy in the '98 M3...and we are lined up at the light. Light turns green...and I demolish him. He did have another person in the car though.

We get on the freeway...medium traffic....4 lanes.

4 lanes....4 cars. We each took a lane and slowed traffic down to 35mph. this is on the 5 freeway where the normal flow of traffic is 80. We only did it for a second...but then...we took off. I already told them I wasn't gonna go over 80, so don't expect me to.

everyone rev'd, and I dropped it in to 3rd.

The R32 was sad. It sounded weird, he had a passanger, and he got left behind.
My buddy in his '98 soon got left to.

Now, the '02 M3 kept up....but as we approached 70mph...I had half a car length. I heard him shift into 4th, so I did as well....and I was a full car legnth ahead of him and right at about 80. So I shut it down. I was surprised the M3 couldn't keep up. there is no replacement, for displacement.

My exit was coming up so I waved goodbye. My buddy said that the guy in the M3 wants a rematch. Saying he messed up the SMG or something. I guess they were all surprised at what the new stang can do.

I was very proud my lil' american car could keep up and demolish the germans.

Isn't 3rd gear a little high at 35 Mph

Don't be so hard on yourself. I don't exactly condone street racing myself, but the occasional red light dance can be done without putting lives at risk.

80 really doesn't seem that fast anymore. I was doing 80-85 coming back from the ballgame last night and was still getting passed. Funny, it's never the Porsches, Corvettes, Mustangs, or Benzes that fly by - it's always the clapped out '89 Corolla witha broken windshield running on 3 cylinders with a hole in it's oil pan.

I'd love to drive an SMG car, though, espcially if it had launch control enabled. Same for the new VW/Audi DSG. Interesting technology.

um....no.....we might have been going more 40. But if you want to take off quickly....you wouldn't go in to 4th.

And the preaching I have done, was for a guy going 140mph. big difference between a 15 second (at MOST) jump.....to more than doubling the speed limit.

I don't think he was saying you should have shifted into 4th at 35 mph. He is saying 3rd is high, thus you should have downshifted to 2nd.

Hey look, I'm the last one to finger wag, but didn't you just get done with a suspension? And you're already at it again....

Dunno what the Chippies would have done if they saw 4 cars effectively doing a rolling stop on the 5, couldn't be a good thing though!

Also you should have kept it in 3rd instead of shifting to 4th at 70mph. 3rd goes up to 100mph with stock gears.

Nice kill though!

Yes you shouldve shifted to 2nd even if it were closer to 40mph...wouldve totally killed them and for shame on the street racing isnt one death a month (heck one a year or a lifetime for that matter) enough (just ragging you a bit but be careful).

ok after talking to rrobello, we must have been going faster than 35.

Yeah, no more for me. the "what ifs" started pounding in afterward. I guess that's why young males are so hard to insure.....because the "what ifs" should have set in before.

well, its over and done with. I admit it was a mistake. But it turned out, thank the Lord, to be a beautiful result.

I have respect for both cars, that’s why I'm writing this because you didn't "demolish" anyone.

Mustang 1/4: 13.8
M3 SMG 1/4: 13.8
According to motortrend.com

You have modifications, not just some minor throw-ins…The M3 is stock. Also comparing yourself to a build in its last year or so when it’s our first is kind of weak. I'm sure they will kill us next build. Also yes there are factors like cost, 30k vs 55k, but the car does have some crazy handling and a very plush interior so factor that in how ever you want. Also the whole it is a status symbol although not as much as a 7 series or a Benz.

Once again no hard feelings, I just felt it needed to be said. Congrats on putting your cars to use safely (as you mentioned no weaving or anything) and having some fun.

1) That was dangerous(hey some had to say it). Cuz when someone going 80 behind someone going 35 is hard to tell they are going slow until its too late, that's why they tell truckers to put on their emerg lights going up hills cuz sometimes it's hard to tell how fast the car down the road is going. Not flaming you or anytihng, just saying....

BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY...

Those are the races I love watching on the net, where they do Roll 40's
Next time, get someone in your car and video tape that shi-....Love watching them. Have fun with ur stang!

Nice kills, thanks for the story.

I know I should be safer out there, so I'm not about to call the kettle black.

Ryan-

Dude...seriously.

1. I never said stock for stock who's was faster.
2. I never mentioned mustangs and m3's in general....my car and his car.
3. crazy handleing and plush interior.....that's nice...they pay 20K or more for that
4. status symbol? Every person I know who drives a bimmer is an ****. People buy BMW's because they can't afford Mercedes.

The only thing being compared is my car...and those two M3's. One of which was modded.

jeesh.
