Disclaimer: This happened on a public road, speed limit is 50mph, traffic was non-existant, visability and weather were great, only chance of getting hurt would have been the speeding ticket. I do not condone nor endorse street racing and have never participated in any except for today.

My boss bought a G35 shortly before I bought my Mustang back in dec. 04. Ever since I got my car he's been doing fly bys or reving at me and taking off at lights ect. when leaving or coming to work. I have laughed it off many many times and on occaision humored him up to the speed limit but never gave it all she had.

Today we were leaving work as usual and we end up at the same red light. I know he thinks my Mustang is slower than his "sport luxo sedan" since it was less expensive and since I've never really put up a fight when he's zoomed around me or revved at a light. So I tell myself if no one comes up behind us, I'm going to show him what my car is capable of and hopefully put this game to rest. I look over and he's grinning and clenching his steering wheel hunching forward in anticipation. I just sat calmly waiting for the light. I check my mirrors and no ones behind us. The green arrow goes so I know the time is close at hand, do another check of mirrors, no one. Light turns green and I give it a split second to make sure he jumps. He does ofcourse. Instead of slowly rolling my foot into the gas I just mash it. Traction control was on. What happened next I can only atribute to cold pavement and cold tires. I was spinning like mad, never had that happen from just punching it from a stop unless I'm on wet pavement or an incline (auto trans). The rear end began to wiggle ever so gently and I was only slowly exceeding his speed. I breifly considered getting out of it, but the amount of time it took me to process that idea, I grabbed traction and was gone! There could be no mistake, within only 1 or 2 seconds from initial go, I had half a car. I had to make a left at the next light and he usually goes straight. So I only raced 1/2 -2/3 a block and let off.

He's a mad man behind the wheel, a dangerous fool at times. His car actually gave up less of a fight than I anticipated, sure I got 40 more HP, probably close to 60+ more torque but he's a little guy, probably 40 or more lbs less than me, plus I think the Mustang is a heavier car.

One of these weekends I really want to get to a track and let it all hang out. Really curious what my car will do in the 1/4 with no mods other than tires and exhaust.

I'm a pretty level headed and safe/sane driver. I'd never put myself, my car or anyone else at risk for my own foolishness. So no need to preach to me the dangers of street racing, this was a once in a life time event for me, I know the risks.

I don't know if you've given any thought to this, but racing on public roads is dangerous.

I hope your boss is OK with his luxo-sport-coupe losing to such a 'blue-collar' car. He's not in charge of payroll is he? lol

And of course, nice kill.

I happen to condone a safe street race. So, I can tell you very nice kill! And for future reference... I have an auto also... don't just slam the accelerator down. I power brake a little and then ease into the gas, taking about 1.5-2 seconds to put it to the floor. You will never loose traction this way (unless it's wet), and I guarantee you'll have better times. This is for doing 0-40, 0-50, etc. on the street. Try it next time. You will feel the car pulling so much harder when you have traction for those first few seconds. You will also make your boss look even more like a fool... which is always a good thing. If he wanted a sports car....why didn't he get the 6 spd coupe...not a sedan.

Plus those things are heavy for imports.

Actually I'm confused....the title says coupe..the story mentions sedan?

Plus 40 hp is too much here are the G35 hp specs:
Horsepower
Auto transmission 280 hp @ 6,200 RPM
Manual transmission 298 hp @ 6,400 RPM

My bad, was sports sadan, not coupe.

Hp is 260ish for his year.

I wasn't supprised by the outcome at all. But that wasn't the point.

ha, I like how he put it that because a car is more expensive theoretically it's faster. That right there goes to show you that your boss has his (excuse my french) head up his hiney. Nice kill though.
