Found Some Competition
#3
This car isn't going to affect Mustang sales, I expect both the Coupe and Convertible to be priced much higher than the 05 Mustang, They'll probably start around the price of a fully loaded 05 Mustang GT Convertible for the Coupe and More than that for the Convertible.
While I find both cars Very Attractive, I don't have the Emotional Link to them that I get from the Mustang.

The 300C weighs in at a paltry 4050lbs, that's +600lbs to an '05 Mustang GT.
Additionally, all Chrysler 300's are speed limited from the factory at 126mph, the Mustang GT Coupe is limited to 155mph. Also, currently the 300C is only available with a slush box, no manual trans option, so I don't see this car keeping up on the street or autocross course anytime soon.
With the current handicaps, I don't see the Chrysler 300 anything as competition, but merely a fair drag race to the Mustang in the 1/4 mile.

It is a chrysler and at least around here they are the worst car for reliability. Ford has a pretty bad rap as well, but nothing coming close to a chrysler. The 300m was one of the worst cars I have ever seen for recalls and problems. Even intellichoice puts a big fat question mark on the reliability due to past problems with this brand.

The Hemi option cost $6000 extra. Add $6000 to the gt and you get a cobra. My money is on the Cobra to whoop the snot out of it. Plus it will look a whole lot better. I can just see it now... A guy pulls up to a nice looking lady in his 300c, she says "is that your grandfathers car?"

They are not in the same pricepoint or target market, so I can't really consider it competition.
The 300C is a big, portly car (although I do like it ), the Mustang will still outrun a 340Hp, automatic Hemi C. The SRT version will beat the stang but is much more expensive.

I saw one of those in a parking lot just yesterday...I spent the next several minutes laughing and broke into a scathing diatribe cursing the designers for ever letting this god-awful machine off their drawing books! The thing is quite possible the second most hideous thing on the road today (second only to the pontiac aztek).
Nobody who would otherwise look in the direction of a Mustang could possible find this monstrosity more desirable. The two do not compare.
Waste of a perfectly good engine if you ask me.

I find that the 4 door has a very Bently/Rolls Royce style. I noticed it when someone parked theirs next to my friends Bentley. They both have a very high shoulder line and low roof. They also have a similar large front square grill and a relatively simple rear end. It wont work as a coupe but as a sedan I sorta like it. But back to the topic ... if it is made into a coupe it wont be in the same class as the mustang. It would not be a performance vehicle.

I like the 300C's styling. It looks A LOT like the concept 427 car that ford unveiled a couple of years ago. I don't think that it will be a direct competitor with the Mustang based on price and buyer demographics. (Although we all know Car and Driver will compare the two and declare the 300 the winner because of its roomier backseat!) I think that it should be compared more closely to the GTO.

I'm sorry, but I don't like the look of any of Chrysler's products. That's fugly, and it isn't a Mustang so I don't think we have anything to worry about. (The viper is ok but that's a Shelby design anyway)

I pesonally like the looks of the Chrystler 300. It harkens back to the days of monster sized mafia cars. The problem with the 300 is that it starts out at like $39k which puts it out of the ballpark of 70% of Americans under the age of about 35 to 40.
I usually see baby-boomers driving around in the 300 out here. Probably makes them feel gangster driving the mafia machine around. The Mustang is the car I want now, but my next car might be a 300 if they stick around for 10 years or so B)

I find it somewhat ironic that people are complaining about the design of a retro car, considering the 05 Mustang is quite retro itself. I'm not saying I love the design. That grille could use some help, and a few other things make the car look "fat" (much like a bunch of other Chryslers). I have some reservations about the design, but wow, people are suggesting it's Aztek territory!?!?
I personally wish Ford would produce something (*cough* Ford Falcon *cough*) to compete with it.

5.3 seconds for the four-door 300C.
5.3 seconds for the four-door 300C.
Subsequent test seem more in line -- high 5 second - low 6 second 0-60s and 14 flat quater miles. A coupe based off of the same platform may be a bit lighter, but it will still likely be heavier than a Mustang. And the SRT-8 version of the car will likely be a lot more expensive than the Mustang GT.
As many people on this board have said, it will be tough to find a car at the Mustang's price point that offers the same kind of acceleration and power.
