I was at the track the other week and a 2004 auto GTO was not able to get out of the 15's with a decent driver.Torque management is bad on '04 autos I hear.

Man, but that car is FUGLY!

Is that why they made the 05 faster - so the owner can get from A to B as quickly and inconspicuously as possible?

honestly, who cares... my Mustang GT hands down turns more heads everyday of the week then theirs will in a full year. I paid significantly less then what they did for their GTO, and quite honestly, I'm more proud to say I drive a 2005 mustang GT then I ever would be to say I drive an overpriced cavalier (oops) GTO.

Not that mustang owners don't do the same thing...no one likes losing or admits to losing, but theres ALWAYS excuses....

Whoever lost can not ***** up and admit 'I lost'
They always have to say something like 'I lost, but on a good day my car would whooped it'

I love how guys use these words WAY too much "Annihilate", "Dust", "Smoke", "Destroy"
Ford GT versus a Cavalier (not the GTO, the actual cavalier )
THATS annihilation...not a 05 Mustang GT VS an 04/05 goat.

Hey I'm open to anyone who buys a great sporty/fast car...but get a life...half those guys are just trying to overcompensate for a small peepee... some mustang owners do the same thing.
Oh lest not forget NOTHING can beat an LS1...or LS2, or LS6, or 7

whatever...makes me wonder where one can aquire a drug that makes one so delusional

It's all about personal taste and my wife and I have always been Mustang nuts. We've owned a number of them and hopefully, according to the dealer, the next will be here by the 5th. I for one would never own a GTO because I just don't like the look, no matter how much power they put under the hood.

Imagine the message boards that are going to pop up when the 06 "Charger" hits the streets. Check out the following article, I got a laugh out of it. The guy talking about how they didn't want to retro, wanted a new look.

http://wardsauto.com/ar/auto_new_dodge_charger/

I can imagine the designers meeting for this one.

Bob-"Hey, how about we just knock the butt end off the Magnum and put on a trunk?"
Joe-"GREAT IDEA!
Bob-"Now what do you think we should do for the engine?"
Joe-"Hemi?"
Bob-"GREAT IDEA!"

The new Charger is born...........

It's not really that bad looking of a car, wish it was a 2 door though. Actually the front end of the Charger and Magnum don't really look alike, the Charger has a much more aggressive front end.

I think it's hysterical that their kill threads don't list any actual '05 kills.
Just that they should be able to beat an '05, or they read that they beat us in a magazine.
But what can you expect fron someone who drives a hopped-up Grand Am

a riced-up Grand Am
Umm, not sure I follow that, when someone says a car is riced up, it has a lot of mods on it that have no effect on performance, with the GTO, it's quite the opposite, the car is one of the biggest sleepers out there, its a lot faster than its look would imply.

holderca1, I was just poking fun at what I consider to be a large front end I would not prefer to own. Just like the Magnum or Chrysler 300, I just don't like the style. Just my taste. I do own a Dodge truck, just don't dig those cars. I just felt the revival of the Charger could have spawned something a little more sporty.

Absolutely..... my thoughts exactly. And if that guy on that forum is right about the 04 GTOs depreciating THAT much in such a short range of time.....

then I ever would be to say I drive an overpriced cavalier (oops) GTO.
OMG - that's EXACTLY what I thought when I saw my first one.....
I was like 'What the'....

That commerical narrated by Samuel L Jackson always cracked me up... they show the GXP, some other car, and the GTO.....

And it looks like you are supposed to GUESS which is which since they look so much alike....

My company just moved to a new building this weekend - we're on floors one and three - other company one Two. Ran into a guy from that floor on the elevator this morning - apparently, Dark Knight II is the TALK of the parking lot.....he just turns to me and say 'I love your car.... reminds me of my '68 fastback....'

I agree completely; the new "Charger" is a disgrace to the Chrysler Corporation and yet another slap in the face to any former Charger owner. The first slap came when they stuck that nameplate on a little 4-banger back in the 80's.

A guy at the '05 NAIAS in Detroit was livid! He got out of the Charger they had on display and said, "This is crap...with four doors no less!" They should have just called it the Magnum Sedan!

Well I guess I will put my two cents worth. I have only had two encounters on the street with my 05 GT. (Before anyone rips me on this , one was on the highway late at night with no one around, and the other was on a long desert road, out in nowhere land). The first one was a 04 GT at about 60 mph. I let him punch it first. I was in 3rd gear at about 3500 rpms and pulled away fairly easy. Did that twice with the same ending. Now my second encounter, I was driving down the road and this black looking Grand Am pulled up beside me. After I did the once over, I saw the GTO badge on the rear, and looked to my wife and said "There's the new GTO" It was a 04. She said it looks like a Grand Am. I said I know, but I hear there really fast. I told her that they have around 350 horse power. The guy in the GTO waits for me at stop light. My wife said "Tell me your not going to". I just smiled. Light turned green and we were off. First gear and neck and neck. I hit second, my back end did a little hop and gripped hard, took it up to 6000 RPM and still neck in neck. After I hit 3rd, I started to pull away from him slowly. Didn't take it to much after that as I didn't want to push it, or my luck. Needless to say I have alot of repect for the GTO's. We were neck in neck for most of the way. There alot faster than people give them credit for. I give respect where credit is due. As for me, I bleed FORD blue, and have owned 6 Mustangs in my time, and wouldn't change it for the world. Even, if my Stang was slower than 50% of the cars out there, my true love would be Mustang.
