I still say considering they're sporting an additional 70CID and a supposed 100hp advantage, this is still very close.
Make that 83 cu in larger. The LS2 is 6L or 364 cid.

As far as handling - the brakes are better in the GTO (braking 70 - 0 feet, 167 feet in GTO, 170 in Mustang). Skidpad is better for the Mustang (0.89 versus 0.88). Lane change is better in the Mustang, too (64.7 mph versus 62.9).
You mean the crude stick axle that was designed by bean counters beat the sophisticated IRS? Where are all of the IRS-***** now?
Right here, Bud.

One of C&D's digs on the Mustang was that the rear end hopped sideways.

Specifically mentioned in the "LOWS" for the Mustang " occasional side-step from the rear axle."

Also they said " The Mustang's rear end did occasionally step out on imperfect pavement. Despite Ford's best efforts the convulsions from under the back seat haven't been completely cured, and there's a slightly disconcerting hop when you encounter a mid corner bump. It's not likely to send you spinning into someone's geraniums, but the GTO's independent rear exhibited no such spasms over the same roads."

On a perfectly smooth road there won't be much of a handling difference between IRS and live. But out in the real world, it's a different story.

Yeah - the Stang rules! I agree with the article. The 400hp may make the GTO faster NOW (the 05 Mustang can beat an 04 GTO, is my understanding), but the Mustang beats it in every other dept. - especially styling! There's no comparison overall between them, that's why they can't give away GTO's and Mustang's are averaging only 2 hours on dealer lots! Mustang will sell in one month what GTO sold all last year!

dont get me wrong, i love the stang as much as the next guy but HP, IMO wasnt the only thing bettr about the GTO. i sat in one at the SF international auto show n i think the shifter felt....sorta...better than the stock GT. but thats it.

BTW anyone else go to the show???

Aren't you 13? How would you know which shifter is more comfortable for shifting?

Grantsdale - his birthday shows as being in April of 1989. That would make him 15 going on 16, not 13.

And isn't he entitled to an opinion like the rest of us here? I didn't read anything that said to post you had to be of driving age and have driven extensively that which you posted about.

Can't we all be fans?

Give him a break, Grantsdale. Why do you care so much about his post? It just sounds like you're picking on him.
Sure, he's entitled to an opinion. But being 13 or 15, thats underage. He's probably never driven a manual, so how would he know which is better? All I've been hearing from previous Mustang and other manual owners who I let sit in the drivers seat is how great of a position it is in.

I didn't think I was picking on him. I replied to his post, just like you did to mine. Its the point of a message board. If I was picking on him, I would have picked something out of his signature and not commented on something that was on-topic.
agreed.

If he isn't even able to drive, how can he comment on how it feels to drive?

It would be like a 5 year old commenting that Miller is a much higher quality beer than Coors. "How would you know?"

He has no experience in that department.

If the 05 GTOs get discounted as much as the 04's are, i am going that route. More power, more potential, fewer guys on the road with the same set of wheels. Only thing i wish, is that the 05 kept the understated appearance of the 04. The new rear valence is ugly and i prefered the single exhaust setup. However, if the 05's sell well, and a stang can be had for thousands less, the stang is the obvious choice.

Let's face the truth guys. Mustang owners have always payed less for their cars=gm guys jealous!

A couple thousand dollars in mods on a Mustang=faster than gm! And we still have spent less money than the gm's=gm guys jealous!

I definately think we will all agree the Mustang looks better=gm guys jealous!

The looks argument could be reasonbly debated for some of the older/classic models, but the late models I don't think so. Especially the gto, it is puke ugly. I feel sorry for the designers that worked on this car, nah, no I don't=gm guys jealous!

Mustang=Everyone is happy! You guys who already have an 05 have documented on this forum how everyone goes crazy over the car when they see it.

The fact that even though gto's have been on the market for a year now, and I do not see them anywhere but rusting on new car lots is all that needs to be said!!

I don't know if the GTO's styling is ugly, its a little mundane but not ugly. It's been selling very well in Australia as the Monaro. Now ugly styling, I would have to say Pontiac Aztec, Chevy Avalanche, Buick Rendevouz...

Umm, they aren't even in the same class, the cobalt replaced the cavalier. So for that comparison you have to look at Cobalt SS vs. SVT Focus.

Chevy itself has tried to say the Cobalt SS competes with the Mustang.

Chevy is stupid then, how is a 205 hp supercharged 4-cyl going to compete with a 300 hp V8?

I think that's the general consensus from the members of this board:

Lol, thats rediculous, even I know how to categorize vehicles, the only vehicle GM currently has that is in the same class as the Mustang is the GTO. Maybe they are saying those two cars are competing with the V6.

I'm not even sure the GTO is in the same class since it's larger but it is the closest thing GM has right now.

I don't understand what's with all the competitiveness, are there really people out there that only buy a specific brand and regardless what the other company puts out it is junk just because they made it. That's just dumb in my book, the '05 Mustang GT will be my 4th Ford and 6th vehicle overall. I have no idea what my next vehicle will be after this next one but I will look at all cars and decide, not just what one manufacturer is making.
