What is on the cover?

That's great to hear! The 300hp 05 Mustang GT being able to hang with the 400hp GTO? As Dan said....THANX HAU!!!! Just comes to show how GM is stupid for thinking that a bland car with a hot vette motor will sell. Shame on them!

Yeah - the Stang rules! I agree with the article. The 400hp may make the GTO faster NOW (the 05 Mustang can beat an 04 GTO, is my understanding), but the Mustang beats it in every other dept. - especially styling! There's no comparison overall between them, that's why they can't give away GTO's and Mustang's are averaging only 2 hours on dealer lots! Mustang will sell in one month what GTO sold all last year!

Aren't you 13? How would you know which shifter is more comfortable for shifting?

You mean the crude stick axle that was designed by bean counters beat the sophisticated IRS? Where are all of the IRS-***** now?

As far as handling - the brakes are better in the GTO (braking 70 - 0 feet, 167 feet in GTO, 170 in Mustang). Skidpad is better for the Mustang (0.89 versus 0.88). Lane change is better in the Mustang, too (64.7 mph versus 62.9).

I would still prefer a proper IRS setup over the 3 link. Looks like Ford did a great job using inferior technology. Great job Ford Engineers!

Grantsdale - his birthday shows as being in April of 1989. That would make him 15 going on 16, not 13.
And isn't he entitled to an opinion like the rest of us here? I didn't read anything that said to post you had to be of driving age and have driven extensively that which you posted about.
Can't we all be fans?
Give him a break, Grantsdale. Why do you care so much about his post? It just sounds like you're picking on him.

I want a bumper sticker...."Supporting the 3-link since day 1." Solid axle strength with IRS equivalent handling. Does it get any better than that? I think not.

Obviously it's NOT inferior.

Except #1, it isn't inferior (beat the GTO and 03/04 Cobra handling wise.....and MT said it was the fastest through the slalom since the Cobra R) and #2, you don't get the launching problems of IRS
Plus, the cost savings keeps the car affordable. For the GT version, I think this is a win all around.

It is inferior for what I prefer...road racing. The GTO handles worse because of its sheer mass. A properly setup IRS rear suspension would further improve the Mustangs great handling. Anyone that thinks that a 3 link is good for handling is mistaken. As for drag racing, IRS cars can hook too. A good example would be Supra's and Vettes.

Styling is what seems to be holding back the new Pontiac GTO.
Perhaps this is what they want it to look like...
http://seriouswheels.com/top-2004-Po...-Ram-Air-6.htm
I can hardly wait for GM to build the Zeta chassis here. The new Pontiac GTO is basically a Holden Monaro with a different fuel tank and some other stuff.
Here is a video of a power-sliding, V-8-powered Holden!

As impressed as I am by the new 3-link (and I am mightily impressed), we have to consider something when comparing it to the GTO and the 03-04 Cobra. In the case of the Cobra we have an IRS compromised by the fact that they had to fit it in a chassis dating back to the 70's. With the GTO we have to consider that it's suspension is using extra strong, heavy Aussie spec bits. Heavy suspensions aren't known for great handling. So we have to assume that it beats fairly poor IRS setups. Now, I'd like to see Mustang GT vs. 350Z Track model.

The issue I have is the January 2005 issue. I'd love to scan it, but I can't since my scanner is kaput.
By the way - after I read more into it last night, the Mustang also made the 10 BEST list for 2005! It was listed as the "Best Muscle Car".

Sure, he's entitled to an opinion. But being 13 or 15, thats underage. He's probably never driven a manual, so how would he know which is better? All I've been hearing from previous Mustang and other manual owners who I let sit in the drivers seat is how great of a position it is in.
I didn't think I was picking on him. I replied to his post, just like you did to mine. Its the point of a message board. If I was picking on him, I would have picked something out of his signature and not commented on something that was on-topic.

GTO.... what GTO.... I didn't know they've actually sold any of those yet.... Maybe they need to put a $10,000 rebate out there instead of the $3,500 that they have and still can't move them.
That car is nothing but the ugly kid of a Cavalier that banged a Grand Prix and somehow ended up with the mailman's corvette engine.
I pulled up to a 04 GTO last night and the guy wanted nothing to do with me. I played games and danced all around him, he wouldn't step up and ended up turning off the main road.....
Long live the Mustang!

The nice thing about the GTO's styling is that few are going to think, "that looks like a fast car...let's race him!" So it doesn't attract the wrong attention.
It does need more better styling, imo.
