The current GT gen is the best all around ever. Anyone who states otherwise is relying on myths not actual experience.

I have owned alot of the cars on the list, and my '70 Boss 302, has always been my favorite..no question about it...
Big block handle terrilby, and are not that much faster...
My Shelby always draws more attention, but the real car guys know...
Boss 302'a have the 4 bolt mains, steel rods, huge ports, cool image, and the racing heritage second to none...

First off, i love all the Mustangs, and FORDS in general, but i gotta go with the BOSS 302.
1. looks like its going 100 mph standing still
2. racing heritage
3.cutting edge engine technology...for the day..
4. limited production
5.and what Mark said about its just about as fast as any big block

Boss 302
I've owned just about every Mustang that has been made - including a '66 Shelby GT350 and a '03 SVT Cobra with a Whipple SC. I've loved them all, but I like my '70 Boss 302 the best.
Straight from the factory, it was close to an all and out Trans Am racer. Very few mods were needed for a full blown race car.
Other Mustangs have been built, but in order to get to the factory performance level of the B2, many after market mods were required. That's why it is my favorite.

I would suggest that there is a flaw in the catagorizing for this poll. If the '65 GT350 and 68 GT500KR Shelby can be in the same catagory, then the 69-70 Boss 302 and Boss 429 should be in the same catagory. They are as or more closely related than the Shelby cars since they share the same body among other things.
The voting would then tend to suggest that the Boss cars are in fact the Best Mustangs ever. If you are comparing them to their time, rather than overall. If its overall, a current would have to be the best.
I vote Boss 302...'69 that is. The purest form of Boss 302.

I say it is a tie between the '69 Boss 302 and the '65 GT350R.
Welcome to Brad's site! When is the http://www.boss302.com site going to upgrade to this century's message board technology?

BOSS 302 message board isn't filled with useless and needless whizbang stuff. Its just a place for guys who know their stuff about cars and BOSS cars in particular. The VMF has a good site. It involves everyone who likes all mustangs, not just the 'newer' ones.

Better
Even though I own a Boss 2, I have a 95 Cobra R that will kick its butt. I know there weren't many made ( 250) But for an all around car from the factory it is hard to beat that 351. It handles, accelerates and stops. A race car from the factory....Just my .02

Agreed with poster above -- Boss 429 is a slug. 428CJ takes a 429 any day. Put that overweight boat anchor against a 428 ANY day. How 'bout it, take it to PINKS if you're so bloody sure!!! Put up or shut up.

I think its fairly evedent that the 429 so far outclassed the 428CJ on the race track, that no one bothered to try it.
The same is true of the MOPAR 440 6pack and the 426 Hemi. Taken from the showroom to the drag strip, the 440 won easily. But that was all the 440 had to offer and the 426 hemi was just getting started. Same with the two Ford engines here.
Saying a Boss 429 was a slug is sort like saying the Boss 302 was a slug when your only frame of reference is drag racing.

It seems to me that had Ford could have developed the FE series further for Nascar, they would have. An attempt to get the SOHC 427 qualified was shot down by Bill France. So the Boss 429 was developed to give the Chrysler the spanking it deserved.
While in showroom trim ( and I know this because I got mine from the showroom) the Boss 429 was fast ( mid 13's ) with a set of headers and some tuning I ran 12.48 at 116 mph in 1970.
Thry way its set up now should be good for about 2 seconds off that, but I wouldn't race pinks against anything for it.
If I wanted a 428 Cobra Jet I would have bought one in 69,nice cars, but lack the wow power of the Boss under the hood.
And,I suspect there is very little weight difference between the iron headed 428 and the Boss 429.
The best to me ,after the Boss 429, would be an 06 fitted with an injected Boss 429 and a six speed trans. And air conditioning, don't forget the air. Then I could drive it all summer whipping butt at will!
