Beater Car Got Totaled - New Car

Yesterday I was on my way to pick up my brother, I got hit head on by some 16 year old kid driving his dad's truck. He took a turn in the opposing lane of traffic (my lane) and hit me at 40mph (I was going 35). So to make a long story short the car has 6 times its value in damages and we made a settlement of $2,000. I was saving some money to modify the Stang, but I guess thats goin to a new beater car. So the question is, what should I look for between 2k-4k thats sporty, preferably 2 door and is decent in the snow and gets decent gas milage? I was thinkin a 3rd gen f-body.

Foxes are not a lot of fun in the snow. An f-body is hauling another 1000lbs with it, so itd probably be a bit better.

Why not a little 4x4 though, like a ranger or an S10? Good in bad weather and might come in handy sometime.

You guys are right, I probably should get another front wheel drive. Man, who knew I'd miss that subaru so much?

Get another Subie in my opinion. Find a mid 90's legacy. Almost any of them you find will be AWD (FWD was available but not common). It'll be much better than a front wheel drive vehicle. I miss my 93 wagon. It was extremely reliable, decent on gas, and got through just about anything.
