Auto vs. Manual 0-60
#1
I've been lookin around my area for a 99-02 Mustang GT, but all I can seem to find are automatics. My question is, is there much difference at all between the auto and manual, speedwise? Like for my 02 Cougar, it's an auto and the difference between that and the manual is like 2 seconds 0-60 which really sucks.

Yea, autos are usually 1-2 seconds slower.
I always check modernracer.com they have a lot of 0-60 times, 99-04GT they have 6.1....someone in this forum quoted me 5.3-5.6, but I guarantee the auto will be high 6's if not 7's. :nono:
Try autotrader.com, which will find local dealers....then you visit. I still don't believe in carmax.com, their selection sucks.
Also cars.com , their selection is good also.

I found a 99 Cobra 5 spd, but it has 66k miles and it's at one of those tiny dealerships, called Classic Motorcars.. my dad always says he doesn't trust those small shops, cause the cars they sell are usually ones that the big dealerships couldnt sell.. Is that true?

Yeah, it seems magazine always over shoot the specs on Mustangs. The M5 GT's do not take six plus seconds to hit 60...believe me LoL. I'd say about a 5.3-5.6 with the autos lacking severely at anywhere from a 5.9-6.5 (just a guess as I'd never own one)

If I'm correct they report any damage or repairs done to the car. At least that's what I've been told.
Also just as a guide....I'd TRY to stay away from cars with that many miles on it. Cobras are meant to be driven so I'm sure that they've been floored more than once. They might be abused more than you think, also don't just grab a car because it's available.

Unless you're a hard core 1/4 mile guy, you won't notice much difference between the stick and the auto. Mine's plenty fast for the street and highway and that's all that matters to me. And no, I don't street race.
Of course, I'm a lot older than you guys, which has a lot to do with it.

mustang autos suck... they are way slower than the stick counterpart. if it was an lt-1 or ls1 auto then get it... but a auto stang sucks for both 1/4 and top end racing...

I live in Pittsburgh and there are lots of hills and stop lights on hills. Everyone says to get an automatic instead of replacing clutches. I would love to buy a GT w/ stick shift, but am having too many doubts put in my head. Any thoughts or support...
Also, I see people expressing the dislike for the spolier on the new Stang. I do not know much about the aerodynamics of cars, but what makes it better to be without a spoiler.

no they're not that much slower. 2/10s maybe, but then you factor in drivers (un)ability to drive a stick and the 2/10s difference could be gone. Autos don't miss shifts and are hella consistent if you're bracket racing.

B) Also if you get a shift kit and torque converter upgrade it will do better that a stick in the long run and will absoultely NEVER miss a gear
