I am pretty much in the same boat. The reason I bought my car was cost. I would have LOVED a GT, but I can't afford it all around. I could make the payment, but gas and insurance would break me. What's the point then?

This gives you a great sounding car with lots of nice options for a really nice price (gas, insurance, payment). Makes for a great value buy! Plust the added perk is that you can get more options in a 6 for less than a stripped out GT. Choice is a fabulous thing!

I also was going to buy the GT but once I called the insurance company and asked for a quote on it.. that was my decision. It was insanely high, especially since i'm only 18.

That sounds good. While we will never sound like a V8, that does have a powerful tone. Sounds big not small.

No "kills" to report, but maybe more of an assasination:

I was sitting at a red light in my home town when this Toyota rice rocket bling-mobile pulls up to me in the next lane and starts revving like he's on a chassis dyno and hopping his car forward repeatedly. Now normally the nerve-grating sound from his crummy ricer muffler MIGHT have been enough to provoke me. Unfortunately (for him anyway) as I'd been sitting at the light before he arrived I'd noticed a cop car mixed in with other parked cars on the other side of the intersection about a 1/2 block up the street, running a speed trap.

So feeling a bit mean, I revved back at him a couple times (which even with the 6 cyl sounds good, especially as I have a GT muffler on the car) just as the light changed. On the green I stomped the gas just enough to lift the nose and jump forward before immediately backing down. He naturally gunned it for all his sake fueled "race" car was worth. The guy didn't even back off when he must have realized he was 10-20 car lengths out front. He must have been doing about 60 in a 35 zone when he went zooming past the cop.

I felt a bit guilty rolling past him at 35 as the cop was just pulling him over, but just a bit B)

Classic.

I'm praying that opportunity comes up some day soon. Tired of these 16-18 year olds with a ricemobile (that mommy and daddy bought them) who want to race just because I'm in a Mustang. I'm still attributing that to feelings of automotive inadequacies on their part though.

yesterday...i was coming home from san francisco heading north over the golden gate.... about a mile or 2 after the bridge, i saw a toyota supra creeping up behind me... and of course he would pick on me...so i ende up taking off on him. The freeway is not just a straight, but winding and a course of going uphill and downhill...I took off to about 90 entering 100mph on a straightaway between two crowds of cars...i slowed down entering upon 70mph "traffic".....i was weaving in and out beween traffic...the supra was still beding me until i got into even smaller cracks between cars....he got stuck as i sped on off....i was suprised....so i hung out on the right lane to wait if he wanted some more...i could see him come up again in my rearview mirror....and i let him get in front cuz its easier following someone....the supra had the big wing, but im sure it wasnt turbo cuz he woulda left me in the straightaways...so off we went again...i was on his A** the whole time....weavin through traffic again...it was pretty fast..like 80-90mph or so...i could really feel my suspesion is really working gooooooood..... but he ended up taking a wrong way and got stuck behind a semi...so i sped off in the fast lane....again....i slowed down again in the slow lane....i could see him about 10 cars back...he did not want anymore....so i exited...and found a 7-11 to get a slurpee...cuz darn...that really heated me up......

i dont know how much horspeower a non-turbo supra has....but i know i can keep up and spank it in manevering.....

I will post my kills or cars killing me (LOL) once track season starts up in my area. I'm on the east coast in the Washington DC area. One of the reasons I didn't get the remote bottle opener, so I don't get tempted to spray on the street.

a stock turbo supra will only run a 15.1. (or slower in the earlier years). Im sure a really good driver could take a stock one to a 14.8 or 14.9 but they arent THAT fast stock.

im pretty sure the 02 GTP runs mid 15's stock. So yes a stock v6 can, with the right driver, and a 91 tuned v6 should easily take a stock one. Its the 04+ GTP/GXP grand prix's that run 14's

Haha, I was 18 when I bought my Mustang.

Kills kills.. Two kills: '06 Pontiac Solstice & '93 Celica ST. And one death: Subaru WRX.

The death first.

It was my first race from a dig and I did just about everything wrong...

Some white (what I'm afraid to call) ricer rolled up next to me at a light while me and two of my friends were heading over to the theatres (that's just over 300lbs added). So this guy has blue HID, and a carbon fibre hood, never looked back toward the driver and never got a good look at the car itself. My friend in the back seat goes, "OoooH! I think he wants to race, he's looking over his shoulder at us!" I couldn't hear any reving over my own music and heater. So the light turns green, and I roll into interesection. As I completely cross the intersection, now going maybe 30MPH my same friend in the backseat just yells, "OH! He's gunning it! GO! GO! GO!" Immediately followed by the piercing whine from the other dude's exhaust. I'll get to the conclusion in a moment, but let's review.

Mistakes/Disadvantage:

1- Was unsure of situation.. "are... are... are we going to race?"
2- Rolled into intersection casually.
3- 2 friends in the car with an added wieght of about 320lbs.
4- Heater was on.
5- Overdrive was on.
6- Didn't use 1-2-3 gears.

Ok... so as soon as my friend yells, there's nothing much I could do. I being me in the current situation- had this happened to me now, I would've made different decisions at a 30MPH roll. Anyhow, I floor it, and naturally I'm kicked up to about a car's length ahead. Then the predictable happens, car shifts into a higher gear.. felt like I went from 3rd to 5th. RPMs drop like mad, and I'm highway cruising! Typical! The guy is now really starting to pull and by the time we cut it we were barely at 75MPH and I was at his passenger door. He braked, and pulled behind me, then made a right turn. Never got a look at his car.

Around the same time next week, and same street, I pass by a familiar scene. Same white car, CF hood, and the blue HIDs... it was a WRX (non-STi). I'd say it's safe to assume that was who I was racing that other night.

Now if you're still with me, here are my two kills.

Kill: 1993 Celica ST:

One of my best friend bought this preowned Celica exactly one day before I got my 05 stang.. and he jumps on the opportunity every chance he gets. Mostly it's freeway poo, we're driving around past midnight, not soul on the street, just testing each other.. but tonight we finally met at a light.

Now, I'm not exactly jumping for joy by racing his 93 Celica ST; stock, it puts out about 103HP/106 TQ and probably does the 1/4 mile in 17-18 seconds... but hey, although he admires my stang, he's constantly hounding me about it being automatic (his Celica is stick)... he swears having a manual tranny will make up for the 100HP difference.

We both had passengers, going out to eat at the local Carls Jr. when my wish came true, yellow light up ahead! I roll down my window and sure enough, he's reving... his "caprisun" exhaust lets out, what sounds like, a shiver... I roar my dual magnaflows back, and shut off O/D, my heater, and snap to 1st (on my auto that is). The whole time, my passenger has him on the phone talking sht, but it's cool, they're best friends. I see the light turn yellow and begin to power brake, he revs too, I climb to 2K RPMs and hold it there for about a second, then punch it. It was a freezing night in SoCal (heh... like 65F), and got a pretty decent hook, just a chirp and I was gone. He wasn't spinning, but I wouldn't call whatever he did a launch, I was across the intersection when he barely crosses the crosswalk line. I tear through 2nd, then 3rd, he's about three buses behind me... then a pick-up turns right into our path, obstructing my buddy's lane. I slow down, didn't want my friend to turn into a bumper sticker on the back of that pick-up.

I could tell he was embarrassed, he never takes losses easily. So I pull up next to him at the next light, we're both making a left, and he tries to regain whatever respect he had for his Celica with some nasty drift attempt. His tires were screaming around every corner, then again when we pulled into the parking lot. I pull in slowly, then burn out in front of him and make a hard right- tires blaring- right into the parking spot next to him.

Yeah, big deal; I have double the power... but it never hurts to put a smack talker in his place.

Kill: 2006 Pontiac Solstice:

I just minding my own business, fighting the heavy winds, when some wierd looking coupe darts out of the on ramp. No plates, but I couldn't read what dealership it was from, so I tail the guy for about 5 minutes before I'm finally able to pull up next to him and take a good look. It was a roadster, a Pontiac Solstice, I should've known! A coworker of mine has been obsessing over them for a while, I even bought him Solstice keychain for his birthday.. duh!

Anyway, when I pulled up next to him, I took a look inside. The driver and his passenger looked back at me, then they took off! I snapped right behind him and stick with him for about a mile, waiting for the traffic to clear up. I finally find an opening, and dart to his left, flipped on my interior lights and gave him a thumbs up, then I turned off my lights but accidentally flipped off my headlights... whoops. Fixed my lights, flipped of O/D and we punched it. He couldn't pull at all... I hit my top speed (haven't tuned yet) of 113/115MPH and looked in my rearview mirror. No Solstice to be found. Took the 60 off ramp and I was home.

Looking at the Solstice's stats: Pontiac Solstice - I4 2.4L (177 hp) 5M + ABS: 177HP / 166lb torque. 0-60 6.91 seconds 1/4 mile 15.57 seconds @ 90.20 MPH

Fun kill.

I hope someone read that post.

Maybe he put them on himself.

The only reason why I'm assuming it's not an STi is because had it been, I wouldn't have been at his passenger door.
