Have any of you gotten any kills in your v6's lately?

My latest race I beat an Infiniti G35.. but I'm pretty sure he missed a gear because he was a car length or so ahead of me at about 35 mph, then he just dropped back durastically..

others a 2003 mustang v6 with a tune / cold air intake (we talked at the traffic light for a little bit)

some idiot in an F150 who kept tailgating me and revv'd his engine at the light

a ricer in a honda civic I just wanted to put him in his place since he also revv'd his horrible sounding muffler

a stock acura RSX

I want to race the Cobalt SS badly but I can't seem to find one

losses:
1998 mustang GT (closer then I expected)
BMW m3 (lmao not even sure why I played around with him)
an older nissan GTR (like 1988-1990)

Unless you've done some work to your car you'll lose to the Cobalt.

I raced a cobalt ss from a stop and lost by bout 2 car lengths at 65mph.
Raced an srt4 from a 45mph on my way back from church today, and by 90mph my door was at his trunk, so wasnt that bad of a loss.

As far as kills... few celica gts', rsx, bunch of civics and what not. I actually beat an s2000 which im just hopin he wasnt that good at shifting, but that was like 2 weeks ago.

I had one agst a riced out civic si... at a traffic light the guy was talking all sorts of smack. I got em by a few car lengths, only for em to talk even more trash... That's a 16 year old kid in a civic for ya... and I was a kill the other day  but it was to a 2002 mustang gt with (Exhaust was the only thing I knew for sure); did better then I thought, my little V6 pulled a nose in 2nd gear - but missed 3rd and lost  - speaking of which, anyone know of a good short shifter for a 2005 V6? If you do, private msg me please.. haha

Oh, as far as the Cobalt SS - I test drove one, and the salesman let me beat on it a lil bit... They're quick, but i think if you raced one, it would be up to the better driver on who won... Didn't impress me whatsoever. Especially not for a 24k sticker + 3k Markup...

cobalt ss was mag tested at 14.2 so it would have to be a pretty bad driver in the cobalt ss and a very good one in the mustang v6

Even what the mag tested it at... I actually drove one, and it didn't impress me much... it sounds like a typical cavalier. I remember when Car and Driver said the Rx8 was a "fast car". Either way, if you buy a Cobalt SS, it'd be like buying a new GT.. the sticker on the one I saw was 24 and change before the markup... Ill take my 6 that I paid 19,100 for and put 5k into it, and take the Cobalt ... Again I just wasn't impressed. Atleast, the Srt4 is impressive - to bad its FWD.

a post from a Chevy forum. 15.2 @ 98 mph 1/4 run, although who knows because I don't think the stock SS runs 35psi. haha, and it doesn't have that much power, so I think?

"Took both SS's to Reynolds tonight, (just got back) The big SS ran low 12's all night (12.09 being the best) The little SS (Cobalt SS) ran a 15.2 @98 mph on street tires @35psi. ^^^^note above, it made 232 FWHP 197 FWTQ. Not bad for a 2.0 L 4 cyl. Got a good basline now for futeure mods.

'96 Camaro Z28 (totalled)
'97 Camaro Z28 (sold due to unimpressive dyno #'s)
'98 Camaro SS #826 (sold due to never-ceasing problems)
'01 Camaro SS 407 rwhp(and less miles than rodney's)
2005 Arrival Blue Metallic Cobalt SS 205 HP "

the tire pressure was at 35psi, not the boost :P hopefully that was sarcasm. and a 15.2 run? thats just sad, look at his speed though, probably just couldnt hook up.
the mag that tested the cobalt ss and the srt4 both got 14.2, but ive seen a stock srt4 run 13.9 so i dont know what the mag was doin on that one.
Its all bout the sound (or lack there of) that makes the SS seem slower than the mustang v6. My dads 01 gt has much more power than mine, sounds like its hauling *****, yet i can beat him up to 70 or 80 (his is an auto).

Someone i have been in contact with has a project v6 car that has ran a 12.97 in the quarter mile so far. has suspension mods, gears, tires, intake, exhaust, headers, tune, nitrous. still the stock longblock.

EDIT: this was on the 125shot of nitrous

my mistake about the 35psi... I should be more carefull when I read ... I can tell you from personal experiance... the srt4 is faster then the SS Cobalt. That's not from a magazine, that's from a driver Ive drivin both cars... When I bought my Mustang, I had a srt4 for about the same price i could've bought.. but RWD is more fun to drive..

As far as the Cobalt, you don't really know until you race one... Those were just my thoughts.

Oh btw... I had a good friend with a 2001 v6 these were his mods: True Dual w/deleted cats and ceramic headers, Steeda Short Shifter, CIA, Diablo sport tune, 3.73 gearing, and 1.5" lowering sport springs w/suspension upgrades. I can tell you that, that car was running very fast; from what he was beating in races we figured mid to high 13's.. He was just absolutly destroying some GT's out there, even took out a SS Camaro, some older corvettes, and mid 90's Cobras... Fast V6's CAN BE DONE!!!!

mid 13s is kinda low for all that, because i believe they were like 190hp or so. Headers, exhaust with no cats, tune and intake will maybe give you 50hp, so thats like 240hp. Thats 30hp more than an 05, which has a much better suspension setup, and even with another 30hp i know im not going to be running no 13's, maybe mid to high 14's. Granted if he had heavy suspension upgrades, and maybe a tlok in there too, then ya i can see a high 13 low 14 run bein possible with good tires. Because you are talkin bout the same kind of mods that are setup on that 05 basically, minus the 125shot of nitrous, and it is running 13 flat basically.

EDIT, thats actually my bad, i rechecked my emails, he ran a 12.79 not a 12.97. And far from ideal conditions (humid, hot, etc).

So i guess a high 13 run for ur friends car isnt out of the question, but its still pretty iffy. I remember when i thought my 83 glx 5.0 vert was fast, and that thing had intake, headers, exhaust, carb, ignition. it only ran 15.2, but it had something like 305rwtq but had no top end.

icedout, i raced my friend who has a g35 coupe automatic. He has intake, headers, exhaust, and retune. His best track run is a 15.24 (very close to mine) so its a pretty close race.

and yes the srt4 is a faster car because its turbocharged 240hp with about the same weight, plus it has a much better drivetrain. I almost got one before i got my 05 v6 (which i paid 19,910 for) but they wanted a 3500 markup and was asking like 28500. That was 6 months ago. I went last month and the same car is still there, but with only a 2000 markup for 26995.

Oh wow... I thought the G35's were faster then that. Then maybe this guy didn't miss a gear and I beat him fair?

The manual g35 coupes are suppose to run in the 14's, so maybe he didnt miss a gear, but possibley didnt push it all the way or something.

I think it's important to note that you guys are going up againts cars that are 5k+ more expensive than yours. The fact that you can hold your own is impressive. It tells me that with a little money you could bury the car into the ground, save money, and STILL look good doing it! Can't replace displacement!

Thanks Nick. She's down right now waiting for some parts, but she'll be back on the road soon keeping the legacy alive!

g35 coupes are about 10-15k more expensive, thats not saying much for them. I know of a single turbo kit in develpment for the 05 v6 that will hopefully push near 270rwhp, which would make the v6 a 13 second car easily. The one with 268rwhp ran a 12.79.

EDIT: my point is that for 10k i can buy the turbo kit (or one of these SC kits soon) still have 6-7k left over, put a nice body kit (like the gt500 one, or the elenor one) some tires, gears, suspension mods, maybe have enough left over for a nitrous kit. Have one mean lookin (and speed to back it up) v6 for under 30k.

That's my exact point Dave. And what's more, if you take the next leap and buy the GT car for less than 30k, slap a SC and a few other pretties under the hood, you'll not only have the speed and the looks, but you'll have the much coveted American V8 Grumble. Either way... it's a cheaper car that with a few mods will hand any respectable import its booty.

I would have loved the gt, and was ready to purchase one and everything. Went home, called my insurance company and they told me $2388 and change for every 6 months, and that just stinked.
you should hear the exhaust that MSP has on his v6 over on stangnet, ill post some links to it, but im not taking credit for them.

I think it sounds awesome for a v6, definately has somewhat of that v8 growl to it.
