Don't get me wrong I would take an evo. They are very well engineerd cars. But I try to talk to these folks and they go on about how an evo would kill a gt (which it would) but I bring up shelby and roush and they get pissed. Why can't we just agree to disagree?

I know what you mean. It's always someone's brother's cousin's friend that owns it and they spanked everyone at the stoplight...and I couldn't care less. The most enjoyment I've ever gotten from an Evo was watching some jack*ss spin out and do a 360 down a freeway exit.

stock evo vs stock 5.0, the 5.0 would win in anything more than a quarter mile stretch...no?
even a quarter mile could largely be a drivers race. as nailing an AWD launch perfectly takes a little skill

Evos r pretty nice. Ive ridden in one, the driver said he could take a right hand corner at almost 40 mph cuz of AWD hahaha. He also decided to prove it to me too. But their acceleration is pretty extreme for the engine size. All around, nice import, no muscle car

5.0 would deff. kill an evo. My near stock 4.6 on the other hand not so much. What kills me is that EVOs come turboed. Its like slaping stilts on a dwarf and braging about how tall he is. Even the playingfield w/ a turbo in a 4.6 and its game over. Plus people don't understand how much HP AWD eats up. Still think there nice cars but would never swap my stang for a car that sounds like john deer lawnmower at 65....you can't even mulch at those speeds

I saw an evo burning on the side of 280 once..
I think theyre ugly cars, but you really gotta marvel at their abilities as cars go. the way those things take corners is insane

If you do not mind your engine blowing up after 15,000-20,000 miles if you are lucky, then yes a tuner AWD blown and built like crazy can spank a stock 5.0. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pd8zWZbFfQE
I personally am a fan of reliable performance in a car that can last well over 200,000 miles. When you put 25-30 pounds of boost in a 4 cylinder engine, plus nitrous, yes it can go like crazy. Come on though, even the best engines do not put up with that kind of abuse for long though. Think of how much horsepower the Coyote engine could have if I put better rods and internals in it then cranked the boost up to 28 pounds and added nitrous on top of that. On the other hand, with 7-9 pounds of boost and no nitrous, I can get a very reliable daily driver that can run 600 hp for a very long time.
Edit: Holy cow, I just saw the price of the Evo. Wow, I had no idea that it is so expensive for such a small piece of ...... I built one out online and without even a navigation system it was over 40k. What a rip off.

Honestly what kills me is the performance per dollar. Build an STi or Evo, then consider fuel cost, which by the way, a 4 cylinder getting less than V8 fuel mileage just doesn't make me want it any more. If I am going to get awful gas mileage it had better sound like a Ferrari or at least a great V8. As much as I like AWD I just don't care enough unless I am in snow country but I am not. I like a good old fashioned RWD to suit my fancy. Not really trying to hate on AWD but I just don't think it's the be all end all that people say it is. AWD has its negatives as well. Besides, neither of the cars are pretty. I think the Evo is not bad but the STi looks like the Chunk (Goonies) of the car world.
I agree though, people tend to side with these cars like they are king of the streets. Evo supporters are worse than STi buyers but I kind of group them together some times. Though I know more STi owners that are cool than Evo. On the other hand, there is an R33 on the loose around where I work, now that guy can talk crap all he wants. I bow out.

I'm sick of anyone hiding behind the car they didn't buy. If you're parents bought it for you, unless there is some significant reason why you deserve, don't brag about it. There is no pride involved with a car you didn't buy and don't pay the insurance for.
