According to Car and Driver it did have the performance pack. (C&D always gets the worst Mustang times, though, and often gets decent times for other cars, I have no idea why)

Hmm I didn't remember the G37 being that fast. Still a driver's race IMO. Auto to Auto, the G will beat the Mustang though, due to their 7-spd gearing.

PS the V6 you really want to avoid in a 3.7 Mustang is the Nissan 370Z.
Exactly..the 370Z is almost...almost E46 M3 times. Car and Driver ran a 4.5 0-60 and a 13.16 @106mph in an 01 E46 M3.

I almost bought a 370Z, they look OK. Drove an automatic, no big deal, didn't feel all that fast.

Then I get one the 370Z forums and find out that about 30% have an oil cooling problem that Nissan denied/ignored. That was enough for a no-go.

I've got an 09 G37x Sedan, that I leased for my wife.
I picked this car for 2 reasons:
For a Sedan, this thing hauls...
And the exhaust in my opinion for a sedan is excellent sounding, I can always tell when an infiniti drives by.

On the occasion I'm driving it, I beat the hell out of it and it's a really nice ride, with power to boot.
It's not my GT/CS, but it keeps me smiling when I use the go pedal.

Yay for 10-year old M3s that can still haul the mail (from a guy who has a 2001 :-), not bad for a mere 3.2 liters.

That little plug aside, the 3.7 Stang is becoming a VERY impressive car, particularly given the bang for the buck ratio. Not the fastest in the land, but for a mid $20's car, more than fast enough and Ford hasn't even really pushed the motor yet (next step, DI for another 15-30hp plus an MPG or two...)

My parents have a 2010 g37 and I raced my dad in my 2008 GT/CS (60 mph stomp) and I steadily pulled away. It hung surprisingly close though. Also, in a drag race the 4.6 still beats the new 3.7. I could agree that this could be a driver's race though.

Since someone revived this thread a few days ago, I figured I'd chime in here. A buddy of mine has a base 370Z with the 7 speed automatic and just went 12.986 @ 107.46 at Cecil County in MD. Bone stock.

The cars are quicker than I think the mags give them credit for. The 7ATs are consistently the quickest with the 6MTs averaging a few tenths slower simply because they such a PITA to launch (I was able to click off some 13.0-13.1 runs bone stock), so you definitely don't want to think you're going to up and walk one! On average, the manual transmission cars run low-mid 13s while the autos are in the very high - very low 12s. We have a bolt on manual transmission driver in Florida running some 12.20s at around 114.

My best stock run with the 5.0 was 12.87 @ 110, making a race between my friend and I a pure driver's race. Basically, if I'm not 100% on my game he will steal one. The issue with the 5.0 is the lack of traction... I know with a better tire I'm solidly in the low-mid 12s and it's much less of a contest, but just be aware that those suckers are QUICK!

I own a 2011 G37 and recently rented a 2011 v6 Mustang while on vacation in Florida. Most will say well it was a rental and beat up but it only had 16,000 miles on it. While the v6 Mustang's acceleration was impressive for a base car, it wouldn't be able to stay with the G37. No question you get more bang for the buck with the v6 Mustang though.

I own a 2011 V6 stang which is my first. I must say the car rocks for the price. I paid 22,500 for it out the door, no trade nothing. I just paid 375.00 from A.M. for my bama sct tuner. For under 23,000 thousand my 11 stang is just as fast as a stock 2010 GT and 6 grand less. For the money you can't get a better sports car than the v6 stang. Plus 30 mpg highway doing like 75mph. Too think the cats meow of 2010 Gt has 315 hp and the 11 v6 has 305, just 10 hp less. The tune makes up the 10 hp difference and some. Best bang for your buck.

There is a little thing called "torque" too that makes a huge difference.

I owned a 2008 Mustang GT and I test drove a 2011 Mustang V6 when it came out. I would always take a 2005+ Mustang V8 over a 2011+ Mustang V6.

Perhaps as a stock untuned 6...
Running 215 to the rear wheels with 3.73 gears tuned the 6 will give it a go for sure, it'll be a drivers race.

The v6 torque is around 280 for the 2011. The torque for the 10 is not much more. Certainly not worth 6 or 7 grand more. The v6 stang can stay right with the previous years of Gt's for thousands less. Ford did a great job on there new sixer. Of course the 5.0 is a beast but for the money the V6 is awesome. I would take the new 3.7 , 305 over last years 4.6 Gt, twice on Sunday.

Ill give ya the 2010 GT does have 325 torque compared to 280. So there is a 45 torque difference. 6 to 7 k is a lot of loot for just 45 more torque. You can spend around 600 bucks on sct tuner and CAI and make up 30 torque. Plus hp is probably around 325 with tuner and CAI. Not bad for just 600 bucks. Plus thrown on flowmaster exhaust and your ready for the G37.

Yeah hero run! What is it about Maryland? I swear it must be situated on top of some atlantis ruins or something that allows it to sit lower than sea level despite being right along the coast.

When fall rolls around, you start seeing some really killer times. 10 second Z06's, 11 second Boss's, 12 second 370's, et al.

When I ran my 07 GT at MIR it was easily .3-.5 seconds quicker than at RDI

Maryland is defintetly the place to run if your looking for a great time.
