2009 Mustang Gt vs. 2008 Mini Cooper S
hey all, i drive a 2009 mustang GT and my bud just got a mini cooper s, and he says its pretty quick, now...im a big american muscle fan, always have been and i always like to poke fun at him (use to have a rice rocket) and tell him that a good old v8=
if me and him were to ever test our cars at eachother (on a track )
how would it go?
im honestly worried, cuz that little car is tiny and light.
my car is stock with K&N CAI but im lookin at getting 4.10 gears and a tune to go along with it, i just wanna make my car eat his for breakfast, any input?
btw if this is a dumb question im sorry! im new to all this, and nothing against mini's for all you fans out there, i just wanna show him the mustang means business.

a mini s makes 170 hp and not tis not that light of a car.The mini cooper is about 2800 lbs and the mustang is around 3500 lb.
around a road course the mini would do ok but on a qt mile track it would be crushed.

If you're sticking with a straight section of road or a drag strip, the Mustang will win. If you're talking about a twisty road, autocross course, or road course, and the Mini owner can drive, than I'd probably vote for the Cooper S.
I love both my Mini Cooper and Mustang, but they are about as different from eachother as two cars can be.

But yeah, two very different, and very good, approaches to driving fun.

In Car and Drivers' Lighting Lap tests (laps around Virginia Intl. Raceway), the results were as follows:
2006 Mustang GT 3:20.9
2007 Mini Cooper S 3:22.9
2010 Mustang GT 3:13.3 (with Pirelli P-Zeros installed)
The "go kart" Mini is 2 seconds slower than the "blunderbuss" Mustang. I don't think driver skill is going to overcome that kind of difference. The difference is even more if the Mustang has good tires like the 2010 GT that was tested.

On a road course it will come down to two main things (assuming both cars are on similar tires). Driving skill and the number and lengths of the straight sections. The Mini will definitely have an advantage in the corners stock vs stock, and the Mustang will have definitely have an advantage in the straightaways. Some tighter, shorter road courses will favor the Mini, other more wide open courses will favor the Mustang.

Actually I have more leg room in my Mini Cooper than I do in my Mustang. I'm only 6'1", but I have a 34" inseam, and usually have the seat several clicks from the rearmost position.
