2008 Nissa GT-R vs. ANY extreme Mustang...

I'd rather buy a Stang, put some money in it, and blow that car away, rather than pay the 50k. Like I've always said about Corvettes, sure, if you gave me one, I'd accept it, but just so I could sell it for 70k, buy a Stang, and mod the h*** out of it, for like 20k, and still have 20k left

How are you gonna sell a used ($47k when new) vehicle for $70k? And even with the $17k premium of a 'Vette compared to a 'Stang GT, I highly doubt you could achieve 'Vette levels of performance, handling, drivability, comfort, fuel efficiency, and outright cohesiveness even if you did all the labor yourself. The base 'Vette is a helluva bargain, end of story.

The base Vette is a very good bargain, but it still has some areas rife for improvement.

Absolutely the the ride of the C6 isn't the cars number one selling point, however if you stiffened the 'Stang's suspension to the point where it gripped, transitioned, communicated, and all out handled as well as a Z51 C6, the resulting ride would be downright brutal.

i'd have to say, if i could afford it. a gtr would be in my drive out of all the cars you mention here. i would prefer three pedals, but the dual clutch box and appointments in the GTR are too much to beat.

I mean selling a new Corvette. 70k isnt that unfathomable. I'm reasonably sure I could make a Mustang for less money than a Corvette would be that would outrun the Vette. 25k for the Stang, 7k for the supercharger/turbo, exhaust, springs and struts, brakes, tires and wheels, rotating assembly, stroked and bored, some engine works, and some bonus features cough*nos*cough. I made a list at one point, and with everything I would want to do, price came to about 47k, and add 5k or so for unexpected problems/mechanic work. I think it's pretty likely. Anyone wanna give me 70k to try?
Dont get me wrong, I think the Corvette's awesome, it looks good, and its fast, it's just a tad expensive, especially if its a Z06, ive seen 3 sold around here for 100k.

IF it could get traction! did you read that article where some magazine test drove it? they never could get the wheels to stop spinning. it spun through 1st,2nd and some of 3rd i think.
but i think a Z06 with some minor mods like springs and such could take care of it, or the Ford GT maybe even the un-warrantied 725 hp super snake.
Dont make me say the bugatti!!!

Wow someone paid 100K for a Z06? I would have laughed at them. Its fathomable to make a Mustang perform to the levels of a Vette but it will beat you to death. The 2 are completely different machines (Camaro is no different). My Camaro can smoke a Z06 all day long in the 1/4 but now he gets better gas mileage more reliability better driveability and he can pass a strict emissions. My Z couldn't pass a loose emission test (glad I don't have any where I live. I can probably outhandle a base vette but the side affect is it rides like a go cart now because it has just about every bolt on piece of suspension out there. My chasis will still flex more though even with the subframe connectors. I'd need to get probably a 6 point cage to match the chasis regidity on a design like a Vette, or a true sports car.

Depends on where you go, At the local Chevy dealer, there were stickering Z06's at 91k, When I picked up my GT I asked about the GT500, the dealer told me 65k for the coupe, and with a grin he said they'd chop 5k out of that if you'd been a long time loyal customer.

A modified Mustang would probably take it in a straight line but unless the Mustang's an FR500C, you can't touch the GTR in the twistys. The new GTR ran a 7:38 at Nurburgring. That's faster than a Porsche GT3.
