2006 Porsche 911 C4 vs GT500

hello all.

the C4 only has 325hp and its 0-60 and 1/4 mile are as good as the GT500!!!

0-60 4.6 sesc
1/4 mile 13.1

and with 12.8" brakes upfront it smashes the braking distance from 60-0 at 106 feet.

man..german engineering i guess?

with the markups on GT500, the price is near the same....

but again...the 911 looks so BLAH....GT500 still wins in that its a SOULFUL car...

First of all, if you think a 13.1 second et is even remotely representative of what a well driven GT500 could be expected accomplish at the strip your argument is fundamentally flawed to start with. Not to mention anyone who can refer to a 911 as a car lacking 'soul' has, without question, never driven one.

Huh? The 08 911 C4S isn't even out yet AFAIK. I've got a friend who works at a large Porsche dealership in South Carolina, I'll shoot him an e-mail and ask him when the 08 911C4S is expected to be sure.

also its stupid to compare a 911 to a GT500 cause the GT500 is built to be sold for $42k. If Porsche built a 911 that could be profitable at $42k it would not even be close with the GT500.

i think the gt500 would win. it's way bigger and heavier, thus more damage inflicted on the 911 when they run into each other. the 911 would probably fall apart like a house of cards when confronted by the beastly gt500.

so in conclusion, the gt500 makes a way better monster truck.

hi knight,
i dont think its stupid persay.....edmunds, R&D, C&D do comparisons all the time on cars based on HP, function....

for example, edmunds compared a regular '07 vette with a '07 porsche 911 S...the 911 is about $20k more $...it was a very cool comparison cause the 911 had better performance even though there was a 75hp deficit...

thanks for the response though...

you know why they do those comparisons...because it sells magazines or gets hits to their websites. It doesn't make it less stupid..

Next you'll tell me that taking pictures of a celebrity picking their nose isn't stupid either...since lots of magazines publish that too.

I don't think it's stupid. Sometimes the comparisons bring to light a great value to be had (i.e. when the cheap car whoops up on the expensive one).

Oh, and pics of celebs picking their noses is great because it knocks them down to my level...

thanks clockworks....

i just didnt want to engage in a bad exchange with knight....

so many reasons to do comparisons....

in this case 911 and gt500..i was doing HP and performance stats...not on price/$

Frontier Ford in San Jose, Ca. has GT500's in stock.. They are selling them for $78K...

The salesman are jealous because the Sacramento dealerships are getting $90K for theirs...

I would take the 911 over the GT500 any day of the week..

The simple fact is, you can buy a GT500 motor and wiring harness with computer for $13K from Ford over the counter at any dealership...

I've never been a fan of later model 911's once they became so easy to drive, I like the 80's ones that would put you over the face of the cliff if you didn't know what you were doing. I'd skip both and take a C6.
