2005 Mustang Gt Vs. 2007 Audi S4
So here is the deal. My buddy just picked up a brand new Audi S4 yesterday. Already he is looking to race me. Are these S4's quick? Would a somewhat modified 2005 and up mustang gt stand a chance? Or would i just get stomped on?
My Mods: Hooker longtube headers with O/R X pipe, UDP's, C&L race intake with tune, 4.10's, bbk throttle body, CMCV deletes.
Do i stand a chance against a stock S4?

why does everyone want to use the mustang as a benchmark for their cars. LOL. my friend has a volvo S 60 R and wants to race and my neighbor just bought a 350 z and wants to race. makes me laugh.

Thanks guys for the support. Mods on the way are Crane Stage 4 Cams, Livernois Heads, Flowmaster Super 44's, electric water pump, BMR Ultimate weight savings package(drop 194 pounds off the front end). More to come after that. Thanks again

I was like, 340 hp and a 14 sec+ 1/4 mile?
THEN i saw the 4200lb curb weight
OUCH
go stomp him
as for that VolvoS60 R someone mentioned, just remember they are decently quick - 300hp and right around same weight as the stang....

I thought the turbo ones seemed quicker. We've had a few of the last gen S4's(04's with V8's) and they were so unimpressive to drive. Don't know much about the latest one though, or if its the same. Its like superpassat.

It depends on what type of race you're thinking of. In the 1/4 mile you'll beat him, although he has AWD. Rolling from higher speeds might be a tie and in autocross you'll most likely lose.
If he had a new RS4, that would have been a different story:
S4: 344HP/7000rpm, 302lb.ft/3500rpm, AWD, 0-62 mph in 5.6 sec., 17" brakes, 3660 lbs
RS4: 420HP/7800rpm, 317lb.ft/5500rpm, AWD, 0-62 mph in 4.8 sec., 18" brakes (!), 3630 lbs
(tech info taken from the official Audi Germany website; US-sold models may slightly differ)

Benchmarks
People have wanted to race against mustangs to measure their performance since the early days of the veteran fox bodied 5.0 liters. I think it is a complement really but it is a pain in the butt when everyone pulls along side you and wants to race. I especially hate the ricers who have mufflers that are bigger than their car bother me. I have 475 hp and I already know what the car will do so I don't race them. Here where I live there are so many of the Subaru WRXs it doesn't make any since. I used to be a little worried about them when my car was stock but now I only have to worry about them when it rains and they get an automatic win when it snows since my care is put up then.

I get an occasional rev every now and then but not near as much as I expected. I can't get 99% of ricers to even look my way much rev. Few idiots every now and then. I won't even get started on the 350z's I can't stand them and everyone that gets them think they are godly fast until they actually line up with a fast car. But I dunno why everyone uses Mustang as a base to where they stand, I always did it as well, but Mine came from my first car in 95, a 69 Nova 350 comp cam etc. That car was a magnet for every 5.0 in the city so I just based everything on those at the time. Currently though my baseline is a Termy .

that, or there are alot of Fbody drivers talking smack the world over convincing everybody that the S-197 Mustangs are super slow, you pick.
#20
Most legit honest Fbody owners know that the S197's aren't slow. To me it's cheaper to mod an LS1 but the S197's give most Fbodies mod for mod good runs and can even win. Stock fbod vs stock S197= drivers race all day long.
