So who will win at the strip an 05' Stock GT or a '04 Vette? (not a ZO6)...I think that the base corvette has about 340 horses. Would it be at least close? or would the corvette spank the stang? I think I hear a base vette could pull about a 5.3 secs and we know the base GT can pull atleast 5.5secs

The 05 Vette is the brand new C6 which has 400hp base and 500+ in the Z06. The base C6 will smoke the GT both to 60 and in the 1/4. You'd have a little bit of a better chance against a C5 (1997-2004) but you'd still need to be a helluva driver to beat a 350hp vette in a stock GT. Just dug up some Road and Track numbers.
0-60 1/4
C6 4.5 12.8@114.5
GT 5.3 13.9@101.4
C5 4.9 13.4@107.5
Cool to finally see someone else from Alberta

Cool, if you're driving an '05 I've probably seen you on Highway 2 a couple times.
You're right the '05 are the 400HP 'vettes.
I'd like to think we're close enough to hang with the '04, but doubt it. Nothing a few mods wouldn't change!

You should see my thread titled something like "what will it take to beat a stock c5"...=) I think stock for stock the c5 will beat the GT, but what I would like to know is what mods would turn the tables...

The vette still weighs less, and more horsepower, more aerodynamic, and better and wider stock tires. It will when at the drag if both stock and even drivers.

I think alot of the time the people who drive vettes, at least where I live, are the types who buy it as a status vehicle. They don't know how to race much less drive stick. So it might just take a decent driver to beat em. Heard of a couple stories where the vette actually stalled off the line. All money no skillz

I believe you'll pay as much for a used '03 or '04 Corvette that you will for a brand new Mustang GT. That said, the Corvette is lighter with a larger engine and a much more "sports" oriented stance/suspension design. Straight line it wouldn't take much modification to hang or even whip and '04 C5 but then they could spend the same and once again be on top.
Tough to compare the two cars. They are in different neighborhoods genetically.
