$16,000 for new 04 GT?
Okay, as you know I like both the 04 and 05 models. I always wanted a GT, but they are not very price effective. However, in todays paper they are selling V8 GT base models, brand new 04 for $18,490. Plus, I have the Z-plan, so I figure with that it would be close to $16,000. This seems like a darn good deal on a V8 since the new 05s are going to be more than that for a V6. I really like the 05s, but this is my only shot at a V8. Any thoughts or suggestions? Should I wait for an 05 V6, or get an 04 V8?
Have you checked on insurance?
The 05 V6 will be pretty fast, and not much slower than a 04 GT. Plus, you get the new interior, new chassis, and new exterior design.
My vote goes with the 05. Patience, young Padwan.

The '05 V6 will be alot slower than a '04 GT. A-Lot.
If you want my personal opinion, i would never buy a Mustang with anything less than a V8. I know some people don't mind having less power, but this is my opinion. The '05 is nicer in every area compared to a '04, but getting the V6 sort of negates the most important thing about owning a Mustang for me.
I think a good analogy for me would be: Choosing a '05 V6 over a '04 V8 would be like choosing a Ferrari with a 4 cyl over a '05 Mustang GT. The Ferrari may be a whole lot nicer in every other area, but not having a great engine negates what makes a Ferrari a Ferrari. Maybe not the best way of putting it, but i think it gets my feeling across.
This isn't meant to flame anyone buying a new V6. If that is enough for you and makes you happy, go for it. Its just not for me.

Go drive the current V8 and V6. Stomp on both of them. You will get a better understanding of what the V8 proponents are talking about.
For me, even the '05 GT will not be enough power. That is why I am (painfully) waiting for the '07 Cobra. I could even buy the current Cobra at a deal, but, I want the (near) 500 rumored horsepower.

Yeah, but the current V8 has 260 hp, while the 05 V6 has 210. Throw in factors like the new chassis, new suspension, and most importantly, the weight difference, and it's a lot closer than you all think.
Then you got the upgraded interior, new style, etc.

I absolutley prefer the 05 to the 04. But I don't want a 6 cylinder. I guess if I were you I would either save up and get an 06 gt or just buy the 04gt. I had a 4 banger mustang and I don't want anything but a gt this time around.
I get Z and A plan so that's pretty tempting even for me. But I don't need a car that bad right now. I'll be getting a 05.

The '05 V6 will be a very nice car, but, it won't have a V8. To me that is the most important item on a Mustang.
I own a car with a Cobra engine, and also a truck with a 4.0L V6. My ex drives a 2000 Stang V6, and my dad's best friend modifies cars for a living. He drives a 2002 GT that puts out 420 hp at the wheels. I know a thing or two about Mustang power and have driven all these cars several times. True, the V8 is definitely the best engine choice. But, as far as car choice for a 19-year-old goes (it IS, after all, the question at hand), the 05 V6 has the 04 GT beat in everything but power and sound.
