'13 Coyote vs '12 392 SRT8
Not sure if I posted this in the correct place, I looked around and decided to post it here. Sorry in advance if its the wrong spot..
But Im new to the forums, names Cameron, Ive got a 2013 bolton 5.0 Coyote.
Boss mani
Steeda 101m intake
Cat deletes
Bassani xpipe
Muffler delete
Bama 91 datalog tune
Ive got a buddy with a stock '12 392 6.4 Challenger who wants to run. Just curious about them, i ran a bolton 6.2 Challenger a while ago and it wasn't even a race.. Ive heard the 392's are quite a bit faster and that they will pull a Coyote stock vs stock, the 5.0 would need boltons to run a stock 392. So any input is appreciated! Gonna line them up either way, I just wanna know what Im up against.
This will all be on the local track of course.

Seems like it would be a drivers race to me. Looks like stock vs stock the 392's just edge out the S197 5.0's by a bumper, so that will come down to just the drivers! With the boltons that you have i would put my $ on your Stang though. The Challenger is just so heavy. The new Scatpack option for 2015 however will make waves as it will put Mopar back in the Fast/Affordable rang for most as the 2014 R/T just wasnt cutting it with its pultry 370hp. Ive been looking at the 2015 Charger with the Scatpack for a gift for the wife/me lol!

LOL...if you ran against a 6.2L Challenger it wasn't a while ago since they just came out...but I'd agree that it wasn't an even race since they're 700+hp machines.
6.1L/425hp SRT8s are pretty decent...but yes, slower than a stock 5.0L Mustang.
Are either of you running automatics? That would likely be the deciding factor as the modern autos offer a pretty big advantage in the quarter mile.
Otherwise, an SRT392 is generally only a tiny bi quicker than a Coyote Mustang in the quarter, a bit slower to 60, IIRC.

And I have the 6 speed manual, works just fine for me. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones with this tranny though, most people I've talked too hate it.
I honestly think I should be fine against his 392 even if it had a tune and minor boltons

I was going to Buy an SRT 392 before Ordering my 2014 GT. seems like it would be a drivers race. I bought the GT because it handled better and had tons of modes for it. The 392's are Quick. Go race him let us know!!

That itself comes at around 37,000 invoice for basic model. Car comes with 2 main packages to choose from, one at around 1500, leather interior plus few other things, and another 1500-2000 for Appearance package, with forged wheels, black grill, stripe, plus few other things.
Around 42K invoice with these 2 packages. Makes it about equivalent to a specked out GT in the price range.

Speaking of sleepers, last summer some dude in a 2014 300 SRT8 aggressively followed me up to a light, then pulled up next to me and started revving his engine. I look over and think "seriously, a Chrysler 300? What are you gonna do, give me a smooth ride?"
But I decided to make him look like a fool. I rev my engine which of course sounds much better than his. And as soon as the light changes he peels out and takes off. And I rolled away, nice and slow like a granny on her way to church. Hahaha, gotchya.
Then I got home and found this:

Looks like these cars are just as fast as my track pack Coyote. So it wold have been very close if I was an idiot like him. Now that's a sleeper.

I'm not a loyalist to any one brand. I love pretty much all muscle cars. The Challenger was my first pick but it was just too big and heavy.

I followed the link you provided, and read the statistics copied below... Considering its a four door sedan (not to mention a Chrysler), holy crap! I've never even test driven a Chrysler before- but next time we replace the "family car," I could see myself actually being interested in something like this!
At the track, the 300 SRT8 accelerated from 0-60 mph in just 4.3 seconds and finished the quarter mile in 12.7 seconds at 112.0 mph, making it the fastest 300 -- and fastest Chrysler -- we've ever tested. Those figures will match a Chevrolet Camaro SS 1LE or Ford Mustang GT and would surprise Maserati Gran Turismo Sport drivers. Let the 300 SRT8 keep going and it'll eventually reach a top speed of 175 mph -- just save those attempts for the Texas Mile.

But whoever has a 300 SRT should sit on it, they are few and rare at this point.

You will win hands down. My best friend has a 2013 challenger 392 fully optioned And even when I was stock with just a cat back and lowering springs vs his with springs and a catback my car slowly would pull away through 3rd, 4th and 5th gear. Now that I'm tuned it's not really even a race, I pull on him pretty good.

I race at my local drag track. A few months ago there was new GT's, Corvettes stock and moded. We were all racing then a Porsche 911 turbo ame up and started to beat everyone. I was not racing that night but I could stand on the side line and watch. About an hour later a Black 300 SRT shows up and cleaned everyone clock with the air on!! You could hear it was moded but I was shocked how fast the car was.
Racing a SRT will be a drivers race.

I personally love mustangs, but I m also a car enthusiast as well. That being said I have had experience against a 12 srt8 in my 12 gt auto with tune only and recently a couple of 15 scat pack 6.4s at the track and on the street, in my current 14 manual with tune and xpipe. The 12 srt8 vs my 12 coyote auto was on a 30 roll which I ll be honest I lost beecause I didnt know how to drive from a roll(numb me was in OD), so I lost but when I asked to race from a dig he would refuse saying that I would win..smh. Recently at my local track ran against a 15 chally scat pack stock on radials and he beat me by 2 tenths of a second but I was on ****ty street tires and didnt get blown, lost by his fender. Then over the weekend had a chance to race another 15 chally scat pack on street tires and basically was a drivers race. We ran about 4 times and it was 2-2, pretty much depended on reaction and shifting on my part. So to answer ur question I believe you should win with ur mods.
Side note: I have always liked the challenger but chose a mustang because at the time the srt was the only one worth getting and I couldnt afford it. Now with the new scat pack at 38k, it is definetly worth the consideration. I love my car and mustangs in general, but my next car may just be a scat pack challenger or charger (if kid(s) becomes a variable).
