06 GT VS 04 MACH 1
#5
Tough choice..... The main thing the Mach has going for it is its uniqueness (the shaker is a big part of that).
Now having driven a few Mach's myself I can say that overall, the 05/06 is a better car overall. The Mach 1 was a bit too cramped for me compared to the large cockpit of the 05. As well, it was FAR less comfortable and the interior materials weren't as good.
Vehicle dynamics are better with the new gen. Under WOT you had less control with the Mach 1 than I do with the 05. You almost feel like you have to fight the car a bit. The 05 is very stable and controllable. The clutch is lighter in the 05 as well.
Lastly, and most importantly, to me the 05 looks so much better than the previous generation (this is my opinion). I parked next to a Mach 1 and I was a bit surprised....my favorite car of the last generation looked small and less aggressive compared to my new car.
Now, the mach 1 is still a sharp looking car, but from a driver's standpoint, I WOULD make the switch if you can afford it. That, or wait till the next SE (cough, BOSS, cough).

I say keep the Mach 1, obviously because not only are they limited, but just the view from the driver's position lookin over that shaker is such an awesome feeling. Though it has an outdated chassy and weird ergonomics it's probably the best overall fox based car built ever. Obviously I'm biased but I like the looks of the Mach better then the new Stangs, though the '05s are nice cars they are just too big to me. As the years go by the you'll see less and less Machs, also the 4v DOHC really sings.

Regarding more fun, very subjective. Considering the chassis and suspension advances and differences on the 05+ I find it very doubtful the fun factor of the Mach 1 would be higher.
Given all that, there is a certain uniqueness to the Mach. Stock shaker and all the styling does look good. Isn't that old of a car, if you go test drive an 05+ and there's some huge difference to you, switch. If not, stick with it for a while.

I'd get an '06, personally. Nothing against the Mach as it is a nice car and rare, but in my case I get a car to drive. Overall, the new Mustang is much refreshed technically.
If you expect to keep your Mach boxed up as a classic, with very limited use, that is one thing. If you just want to drive and don't have tons of money to collect multiple cars, why not enjoy the newest thing?

I wouldn't say a lot faster, maybe a bit faster stock but the '05+ is a much better enginered car is more like it.

While the performance aspects are close (I would argue the Mach "feels" stronger because of the absence of the electronic throttle lag), the keys to this decision for me were the financial impact and the distinctiveness of the car. If I got a GT costing around $27,000 with tax added, I would probably spend another $3000 in appearance and performance enhancements to make it unique. At that price, a special edition Mustang begins to look good. If the rumored California Special comes out in the next 12-18 months priced in the low 30s, it could be the one to get (outside of the potentially impossible to own GT500).
There are so many variables to consider in this decision. Both are really great cars. Good luck!

Further proof to keep the Mach...
Just yesterday when I came home from work (I drove my beater so I left the Stang at home), I noticed there was a small piece of paper under my driver's side wiper. I go get it thinkin it was some junk ad crap stuff and I look at it, it's a note asking that if I wanted to sell my Mach 1 Mustang then call so-and-so at such-and-such number. Funny thing is there's a late 90's M3, brand spankin new 350z and Ls1 Camaro ZS8 and we all park next to eachother....they didn't have any notes on them though.
P.S. I drove her today, I don't want anybody touching her with their greezy hands. JK

Both are nice cars in my opinion. ti apears that you are not driving daily becasue of the miles on your mach. If it is going to be a daily driver I would go with the new GT. For collectibity sake, or if you plan on showing it, keep the mach. Either way you really can't go wrong.

Needs to be more Astony
Sell the Mach to me for 500 bucks so you can go get a 06 GT
I'd take the Mach over the S197. The Mach will be more rare in the future. The Mach looks better IMO. The mach has 4v engine.
p.s. If you want to get rid of the mach i got $500 with your name on it.
