Interesting Read 10+ Years Later Which Would You Buy!
During The Wait For The S-197 I Gave Thought to getting a Mach 1. Two More Months and it Will Be 20 Years Since I Got My First S-197. I Actually Had a New Blue Mach 1 I Was Considering. The Thought is Interesting What if?
That Surely Would Have Likely Changed My Retrofit Role Here Back in The Day Not Being Immersed in the New Car! This Place was a Huge Part of My Life From 2005-2010!

lol, want and need are two different things, the Cobra is still a pretty analog vehicle, and the traction management belongs in a museum right next to an abacus plus the suspension even with the IRS only rates as the very best of the fox body suspensions (the S-197 is a magnitude better and its pretty telling that even with an IRS stock for stock a Terminator and early GT500 are fairly evenly matched on a road course (and the S-197 GT500 is a pig). I didn't take a gander at your sig (will after I post this) but for a 17-year-old and knowing how I drove when I was 17 with a year under my belt (hell even as 21-year-old it's a wonder I survived to see 54 when I got my first V8 fox body) I'd say keep the Cobra on the wish list and get a nice S-197 GT with a 4.6 3v and put a nice suspension kit and quality tires on it. The beauty of that car is with a few simple mods, it becomes a really competent handling car with an engine that doesn't overwhelm the chassis, so it doesn't magnify user errors plus learning how to drive a stick axle car effectively is a good skill set that pays forward even with IRS cars. In short, you'll live longer.

Thanks For Your Take.
Well He Would Be 27 Now So It Would Be Interesting To Know What He Ended Up Doing. Who Knows Maybe He is Still Subscribed to the Thread & We Will get an Update. I Did Not Realize Back in the Day How Many of The Members Were So Young When We Started in 2004. I Was 42 & Really To a Teen or Twenty Something Back Then Kind of an Old Man Already! But With That Being Said The Majority of Active Posters Which Has Really Dropped Lately are in The Late 50's & Up. Our Generation is The Die Hards!
The Guests are Always Plenty & {The Library} is Still Helping Folks With Old Legacy Threads so That is Just The Way it Is!
I Get a Chuckle When A New Member Comes in That Was Not Even Born Yet When The Site Started. So Much Water Under The Bridge.

lol, I always forget to check the dates on a post when it pops up.
Also, that's my standard refrain for the early S-197 Mustangs, rather than blow all the money on engine mods, focus on the handling and becomes a really great and fun car.
